Noting the whole magical Circle devoted to elemental attacks, and how there are five spells dealing with each element, would be possible to allow for one's resistance to the elements to build with each spell learned?
Example: Joe Jones has learned Icy Aura and Chilling Wind -- before he learned them, he had 0% Cold resistance; after learning both, he has 10% Cold resistance. Fred Walters has learned Flame Wave and Lightning Bolt -- before learning either, he had 0% Fire and Electrical resistance, respectively; afterward, he has 5% each.
(percentages just for example.. would probably want to be a bit less for practicality's sake)
I'm fairly certain that I'd like to see this as a Mage-only benefit, or at least give them a more substantial effect. ::Shrug:: It's probably a rather unbalancing benefit to learning the Elemental circle, but hey.. whatever.

It would be possible, yeah. Same could be done to some extent for psionics, tho their individual contributions would be less since there is only one psionic resistance. Also, non elemental attack spells could improve magic resist (there is a specific resist for magic spells such as say a sleep spell for example)
It's a neat idea. _________________ "Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something." -- Plato

Oh, since we're talking about resistances, and since this is my little thread.. what was up with that Erosion resistance? Does it apply to your tools (weapons, armor, etc) or to your own person? I can't think of any spell or psionic that deteriorated one's flesh.. unless you count those spells in the Elemental circle that effect the target internally.
As far as Psionics gaining resistance from their abilities, I'd love that. Good candidates to give such resistance that come right off the top of my head are.. Psychic Hammer (blunt), Spirit Slash (slash), Piercing Stare (pierce), Spontaneous Combustion -and- Tinder (heat), Rime Cloud (cold), and Cure Poison (poison).

PS: For all those that weren't here during Pre Alpha, or who just can't remember all the pretty resistances found within the INFORMATION command, here you go (had to give them all their own line, for aesthetic's sake):
Quote: |
Resistances:
Blunt: 0%
Cold: 0%
Electrical: 0%
Erosion: 0%
Heat: 0%
Magic: 0%
Mental: 0%
Piercing: 0%
Poison: 0%
Slashing: 0% |
PPS: Would Magic and Mental resist increase per level for Mages and Psionics respectively, or would it be strictly based on the amount of spells/psionics you've learned, or a combination of these? _________________

Erosion is primarily used for acid attacks. If you look in the mage spell list, you'll see many of those.
As it stands right now, one's mentality assists mental resist to a small degree, intellect helps magic resist and vitality helps poison resist. I'm not completely positive if that will remain. I doubt level itself will be factored into resists, though Guardians get bonuses to the resists based on level since they can't use armor. _________________ "Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something." -- Plato

Oh, I see now. For some reason, I was thinking the whole line of acid spells dealt with poison instead for some reason. It all makes more sense.
