Why, exactly again is sex wrong and voilence against someone having it not only acceptable but encouraged?

Some people have abused the pvp system; some will abuse the justice system if they are able.

Just what might have been the outcome if the person who said "HR is an adult game" was 'forced' into a conversation about it. The fact is that "HR is an adult game and you can have sex without censorship" is the most common held perception about HR and to condemn someone for holding that view without information to the contrary is unfair to both parties. To use violence (or jail time) to change the perception creates a whole new set of problems and a very different perception within and outside of HR. Whether that is desired as a means to encourage new players to join is a policy question that will have far reaching implications. Content censorship by default.

Okay, if 'the people' have decided they no longer want a game that is *that* 'free' then other decisions have to be made on high about whether the 'new' game is what was intended. Jade mentioned something in her post in another thread which essentially boiled down to the use of Might to protect minorities. That is the basis of the US Constitution and the checks and balances put in place by it. To protect the minority from persecution by the majority - and vice versus. Where the idea and the promise is more valuable to defend than the current prevailing populace views. I don't envy Trevor the decisions he is being forced to make.

If the choice is death, jail, or banishment from HR for sex - I can't see any choice for me than no action at all.

For the last time, the whole discussion isn't to ban sex from the game. It's to try and remove sex from the public eye. You can still have sex in your home. You can still have sex in an Inn room. You can still have sex through whispers/private transmissions/private thoughts. You can still have sex in a lab room. You can still have sex in public areas deemed unregulated/mature/whatever.

What you won't be able to do, under Trevor's proposal, is have sex in Cloud Court. Or in any other room deemed "public". And that's pretty far reaching; you'll probably be able to have sex in the middle of a forest in Live if you really wanted to. In fact, you would still be able to have sex anywhere you want, you'll just have to worry about actual repercussions if you gave someone fellatio in the middle of Cloud Court.

The only reason PVP was brought up as a viable solution other than the justice system is it's the only means we as players currently have/had against public sex. It's pretty much our ownly means of self-policing anything in the game. Hell, if none of us liked Yaru making a certain clothing item, we'd kill him over and over until he got the idea. While it doesn't make a whole lot of sense, it's the only means we have. Outside of potential accusations within the revamped justice system, of course.

haelrahv.com's main page wrote:
Haelrahv is a free text-based sci-fi fantasy role-playing game set in the future on a unique realm in which you play the part of one of many adventurers. Be a mercenary for hire, a stealthy agent, the life-saving medic, a powerful master of the mental arts and more as you explore alien worlds and meet new friends.

Haelrahv includes elements of fantasy such as magic spells, psionic powers, alchemy and more. It also includes sci-fi elements such as tech devices and implants, droids and other machinery, and laser-like pulse weapons.

probably because it's advertised as a game where you hunt and fight and have adventures, but not where you have a five man circle jerk in the middle of the town square.

and the sex isn't wrong or discouraged. what is discouraged is writing bad pornos in public spaces. seriously, not everyone plays a roleplay game that has heavy focus on combat and adventure wanting to see you play the "i want people to see me text-screw" game.

So writing good pornos in public is acceptable then?

Oh cool, so as long as my porn is well written and not a 'bad' (meaning poorly done not morally repugnant) I can have sex in CC?

Sorry, but HR is promoted 'unofficially' as a free place of censorship where you can use profanity in public without getting warnings and yes, where sex is okay as is sexual expression you need only look at the 'mood' list to see some of the remaining origins of that reputation. Otherwise what but the freedom from oppressive big-brothers in all facets makes HR 'better' or different than any of the thousands of others out there for it's citizens to play?

Please, stop latching onto the sensationalist parts of Yaru's posts. He clearly didn't mean that good porno was perfectly a-okay.

I would like to point you to my post above. We're not trying to deny you the right to have sex in this video game. We would just rather not have you do in the middle of populated city.

i'm against any porn in public spaces, but from what i've seen it's all been very bad porn.

and HR isn't promoted as a place to cyber, i'm sorry. it's just not. if i am wrong, i'd encourage any GM at all to correct me. it's promoted as an adult oritented mud.

know what adults do for other adults? they know not to fuck in public when it makes other people uncomfortable.

and it isn't sexual expression that this is about. this is about

Code:
(Bob Fucsk suzY's vaginas)
(Bob moans)
(Bob maons)
(Bob bomans)

I also think it's worth mentioning (again) that the "people abuse the PvP system" isn't really a valid arguement. 1) The number of people that did actually abuse it is very VERY few, let alone in comparison to the number of people who are involved in the sex in public thing. 2) Out of those people that HAVE abused it, how many are still playing? How many people who have had sex in public places IG are still playing?

So EVERYONE please please PLEASE don't use the arguement that people are going to abuse the PvP system.

wasn't torrent and slowdog banned for abusing pvp along with being abusive in general?

I voted for 2 because it makes sense to me from an IC prospective and I think that's still preserving the freedom of the game. After all, people would still have an IC choice of to copulate in public or not. There would just be possible IC consequences to it. Personally, I find that much more palatable than having staff involvement in policing the future terms.

Even with the justice system taking the reigns, rooms will still have to be evaluated as "public" or "not public"... or whatever rating system they settle on. So there'd still be Counselor involvement.

Should be (relatively) easy, you'd need to include inn/home/lab room numbers in a 'white list' that could be referenced by the code handling it, if the current room number isn't in the white list, then action could be taken.

Of course, this could be simpler/harder depending on the setup. Wink

I am not in favor of rating rooms and places. Rate the game and be consisitent, imo. Let the people police themselves through a player based justice system. I do not want GMs policing the streets, making determinations of what is right and wrong, or writing code that determines it.

Rating this room vs. that room is arbitrary, will be subject to error and is segration of society, again imo.

Thank you, you beat me to the punch. [Counts on one hand the number of people she's seen abuse the pvp system since her first day IG]
