Option 2 or 3 would both work, but I think option 2 would drive off less players. Putting them in jail at least gets them out of the public rooms. The only problem would be abuse of player reporting and such, and who thinks what should be appopriate and everything. Even if there were guidelines, there's the time period factor of how long it would take to make something like that to fix the problem. For 3, as I said above, the main problem is people bitching about being killed, and leaving the game.

(The other two aren't even viable options IMO)

I went with option 3 .. I have not seen anyone doing much of anything recently but the last I did I left the room and sent them a mental message saying that the park was not the place for that .. I was returned with "HR is an adult game I can do it anyplace I want" .. yep I wanted to take the shovel to him ..

Went with three, though some combination of 2 and 3 could work.

Just an example:

You notice two people going at it(this would apply to all non-home, non-lab, non-inn room areas) and you can either ACCUSE <person1> <person2>(3...4...etc.) or you could (just as an example) VIGILANTE <person1> <person2> etc.

If you ACCUSE them they're entered into the justice system under indecent exposure or whatever charge you like.

If you VIGILANTE them, you can kill them and receive a reduced fine. If you're a Mercenary or Trooper, perhaps have the fine removed.(Justifiable homicide/doing your duty? Heh.)

This would probably be a trick to code and would require some monitoring, though, I'd imagine. I'll leave that up for Mickey and the other Counselors to decide/figure out, though.

If you have PvP at all, option 3 is going to happen, no matter what the justice system. People will do things Peoples don't like, and Peoples will kill people for said thing. It's just what PvP does.

I voted for two, mainly because I think it's the best RP solution, but as has been said before, a combination of 2 and 3 would probably work.

I can see that there are characters out there that in their own minds consider it appropriate to kill someone because they were having sex in public. I don't think however that the Justice System should use that as mitigating circumstance. In fact, there's no justice system in the world that accepts or approves of vigilantism.

So yes, by all means, make the killing of the copulators an option, but let the justice system come down extra hard on those psychopaths. Unless of course one of the shaggers was the partner of the murderer, in which case sentence might be reduced (crime of passion).

I said 2, but I do like 3 since I had to endure it when I first started the game, and look I lived thru it. And it also taught me a lesson never to do it again. So maybe it would be a good idea to let it be 3. Actions speak louder than words. I actually think people in game who choose to be disgusting in public should have their heads cut off..but unfortunately we can't do that now. I didn't see that as an option. dang.. Laughing

I said 3, but honestly listening to the discussions and Trevor's postings about the possible pitfalls of PvP governing this, 2 is appealling and perhaps more appealling.

I love Symbolis's thoughts. Essentially this is a crime where the victim is the person passing by who may or may not be offended. For whatever reason they are offended (the act itself, the person doing it, the place they are doing it, etc.), they have the authority to decide.

We would have to consider false accusations for kicks or vengence. Evidence will be needed, like a log of what was seen. Automatic trials might not work in this case.

Could we look at a jury? High ranking crats as judges? My mind is racing here. Wow, could this help solve other justice issue? Let people, not systems run the justice system, of course according to guidelines and rules. What automatic trials and systems lack are subjectivity and judgement. The process could be much more complex without a large system change effort. I'd love to hear from Mickey on whether I'm smoking bad stuff or if this is a feasible alternative to justice.

I like options 2 & 3 best, and I think we may be on to something here. Depending on if this would be easier to code than justice/combat, it could be a good solution for crimes as well as give bureaucrats a chance to show just how good they are. That or I've been smoking what Epol has.

If people who come across public sex have the option of reporting the accused, yes there should be evidence involved, as in any case. And if (when it is an option) murder is committed on them, the killer should face legal punishment as well. A trooper shouldn't get off because of their station, considering I thought troopers dragged the criminals in for a fair trial. I could be wrong, wouldn't be the first time.

I havent voted on this yet cause I couldn't find a good option I felt strong on. I think there should be other options like:

If offended by it, ask the couple nicely to do that somewhere else.

Offer them money to get a room at the inn.

Have a GM send them both a message asking them to take it somewhere more private like the inn or a home.

I voted for 2. I'm a big fan of the justice system, I think it would be great if it did more than it has been (it would give troopers and brokers more work), and I think it's a lot of fun. Which could be something we're all forgetting. This isn't all about being right and wrong, it's about having fun. I remember the first time I got killed, and I thought it was going to set me back weeks in progress. You bet my character was mad, but the entire time I just sat there and laughed and said "Oh well!" because IT'S A GAME! Not to mention my death was very artfully crafted (gotta love Stilldawn).

Stilldawn does make death an art form. And I agree, as stated in other posts, that this could be a positive thing. Giving troopers and bureaucrats a chance to shine, to turn the solution into a chance for more RP.

I voted for #2 also.

After reading all of the discussions I'm assuming this poll only refers to the actual sex act. Not "lewd acts". The reason I'm bringing it up is because actually having sex is easily defined where, "lewd acts" are not.

Code:
"Any conduct that is considered indecent or offensive. Today the term is often used when referring to pornography, prostitution and indecent exposure."

Legal Site, citation

So, I guess that would cover the public nudity. But on Haelrahv, I can see it easily expanded to public sex acts as well.
