So.. how long is one and a half seasons, in actuality? like month-wise. I'm sorry I suck at converting haelrahvian time. _________________ Sage. |

4 HR seasons = 1 IRL year
so one season is equal to 1/4th a year.
so 1 1/2 season gestation period means 3/8ths a year means 4.5 months.
...which makes me wonder if my math is off because i don't know why humans would half the gestation period in HR that they do IRL, unless being in space did something. _________________ A bright-eyed Thekko Ku Kalla dressed in a dapper sailor suit takes to flight and careers through the air toward the Modan Kucho and slams into him!

Good question. I'm still confused. If it's four and a half months which counting through your calculations it comes up as being... Sage is way way overdue.. heh heh heh... but it don't make sense for a human to have only 4.5 months gestation and the eolai and humans have the same amount of seasons so i'm simply going to guess that it's nine months, RL time for a eolai as well. Which puts poor Sage a little overdue but perfectly normal. _________________ Sage. |

The time frame is correct as Yaru calculated. _________________ God has no place within these walls, just as facts have no place within organized religion.

Miss Morrigan is THE expert on all things Haelrahvian and if she says it is 1 and a half seasons... it is. In a world full of things like someone concentrating and suddenly pummelling you with mental knives and lightning bolts coming from a Mage's fingers I really don't understand why it is so hard to believe.
Keep in mind. Everything is different in Hael than on Earth. Rotation, moons, day-length so it only makes sense some things would effect the body and it's cycles.
I understand Sage has been on a little vacation for a while but please, don't let that change the excellent history and lore that Morrigan worked hard to provide us with. Which means, Sage is beyond huge and way past her due date _________________ You turn to Trevor Rage and ask, "What the fuck were you thinking?" |

So four and a half months. All right. And no offense but I am gonna play it as being only a little past her due date since the information wasn't available at the time that said date was figured out. Thank you for the information for the future though Morrigan.
Sage, who is going to be anatomically incorrect for the moment but is still very happy with the information! |

1 season = 122 days
1/2 season = 61 days
...and that comes to roughly 6 RL months actually. I was always confused about that too because in the CM it says 80 seasons = 20. But by the 122 day rule, 80 seasons for a human is more like being 27ish years old.
Edit: Though, this does not take into account that earth days are 24 hours long and HR days are 18 hours long...
It's VERY confusing to figure things out with so many differances like that....and I refuse to do the math to figure it out. I would be kinda cool if we could get calenders IG. And the ever-buggy watches.
Edit2: So...I got curious and did the math. I based it off of 12 30-day months with 24 hours each and got 8640 hours a year (a little off from what it really is). And for HR's calender I did 122 days for 8 seasons at 18 hours each...and then divided that by two...and got 8784 hours in half a HR year. So...they actually are pretty damn close! Gah, math is evil. ;.; _________________ "I reject your reality and substitute my own!" -- Adam Savage

Those are Haelrahv days, Kit. 122 days Hael days = 91.5 Earth days, so 1.5 seasons (183 Hael days) = 137.25 Earth days.
137.25 Earth days / appx 30 days per month = 4.575 Earth months - the gestation period of the Eolai.
Edit: And human, too! _________________ Something wicked this way comes... |

just curious but any reason why gestation in HR is so fast? _________________ A bright-eyed Thekko Ku Kalla dressed in a dapper sailor suit takes to flight and careers through the air toward the Modan Kucho and slams into him!

Out of boredom between classes, let's revive an old topic instead of studying for an upcoming exam.

just curious but any reason why gestation in HR is so fast? |
I was watching this Nova-like show on PBS the other night about the solar system (it was mainly focused on colonizing Mars, but they tried to keep it looking as open as possible). They cited a study performed to test the biological effects of weightlessness on humans; the subjects were made to lay as flat as possible on a bed for all day for a week... the prone position most emulates weightlessness (without doing those whacky free-fall practices in airplanes) since gravity is equalized upon the body.
They found that the patients' hearts had shrunk to roughly half their beginning sizes. That's both muscle mass and total volume. The study didn't touch on this, but it's obvious that a reduction in cardiac muscle directly affects circulation which would, in turn, affect the distribution of nutrients and oxygen and all that jazz to the rest of the body. This could potentially affect every system, not just reproduction, but everything would kind of play off one another in the grand scheme of things.
In the case of Humans...
Assuming Haelrahv's gravity is less than that of Earth's, and after several generations of adaptation, I can see how this could affect the gestation period. Since the Eolai are the most similar to Humans, it makes sense they'd gravitate toward some of the same adaptations -- nature knows best, after all.
Without the reduction in gravity, however, I just wasted a ton of pixels.
