I was wondering if it would be possible to get those merchant tables for homes...only to make them a bit more perminant. For instance, I could put gadgets on the table...people can come in and buy them. The money would be collected in a machine. So long as I was IG at the time, the table would work.

Just a thought.

Rikiar was going to work on player-operated shops after justice was released (I can only assume other things have come up). And those shops were going to be Bureaucrat-only, if I recall correctly.

Soooo...

Yeah, Rikiar has indeed, but I have other plans, and he's MIA and has stuff on his plate on return anyway, so I don't think we'll be going the Bureaucrat route.

Maybe if you need a crat to help get you a selling liscence? And the cost of having one of the tables could be a monthly fee and possibly added into the house monthly upkeep?

Shops would be nice, but some of us run our homes like a shop too. And I can't/don't want to always be around at the center to sell goods that people don't always want. If I can leave an array of goods at my workshop and people can come in whenever they need stuff...that would be great. I could even sell things like super-charged batteries that I find while hunting to be competetive with the comm shop and stuff like that.

If that route was taken I'd definitely suggest that things could be stolen off your tables or whatever, especially if you aren't even there to watch your stuff.

Or it could be a vending machine. You put your money it and it spits the item out.

XD And lasers attached! ^.^ Or not. But yes, I like the idea of more, diverse things to repair. Right now, Kit's services aren't needed. Littler techs can do just as well as he can. So having more stuff to do...preferably harder stuff...would be excellent.

Having vending machines jam would be fun. Or having doorbells go on the frits too.

Tables: Low cost, stealable(when that comes out), no repairs

Vending: High cost, unstealable, Technician repairs necessary.

Could probably add more differences, if you really wanted to.

LOL sometimes I feel like I am stuck in a rut, getting everything but nothing done at the same time. Now we can see why.

Hey let's have the ability to sell stuff!
+ But let's have it be in homes!
++ But let's include Bureacrats in it!
+++ But let's add stealing in it too!
++++ But let's have techie stuff involved!
+++++ But it has to be repairable!

And so on.

For the record, I see no reason Psionics should be added into this!!

But seriously, you make a very valid point. Must drive you nuts!

++++++ Can I have a pony?

that said, while all the extra bells and whistles would rock right now, i think just having a table or counter or something that works a la the current merchant tables BUT (keep in mind i have no clue how things are coded but in my crazy mind this is how easy it can be):
Code:
(a) doesn't require you to be a 'crat (which sounds like just taking out a line of code that checks profession)
(b) doesn't shove your stuff off after X amount of time/you not being IG (once again, just removing a check/timer, right?)
(c) doesn't require you to be there (probably the biggest hurdle, making it so it goes from the buyer's credit to the seller's credit)
would make everyone happy for the time being.

Agreed. The extra stuff can come later...or come never either!
