Q. Who can own homes?

HR-Trevor wrote:
Finally, it goes without saying this is a Standard Account Holder benefit, and homes will only be available to those account holders. If your account drops from standard, your home will go into a state similar to being condemned and be unusable, and your maintenance paid in will simply be held in limbo until you reactivate Standard Account access.

Q. Can a home have more than 1 owner?

HR-Trevor wrote:
A home will only have one owner. You can elect to make your "special guest" your spouse, so that have access to the containers in the home. I actually had spouses in mind when I added that to the design list.

You'll be able to make one person, on any account type, your "special" guest.

Q. How about other guests?

HR-Trevor wrote:
You'll be permitted to give a small number of people (I'm currently thinking about 3-4) access to unlock and lock your home. Anyone will be able to enter your home at will if it is unlocked, but only the owner and guests can unlock the home. No one will be able to take items from or put items into furniture in the home except the home owner and 'special guests'. A couple of things I am going to look into are:

1. Designating one guest as having special access which allows them to access items in furniture.

2. Allowing the owner to lock doors within the home to block everyone, including guests, from entering those rooms.

Q. How about privacy?

HR-Trevor wrote:
I'm going to go to great pains to try to avoid any breaches of privacy through mechanics abuse or misuse, but ultimately some of that will be up to homeowners. You'll need to keep in mind who you trust to have access, and like real life, you'll need to keep your doors locked at appropriate times, if you don't want visitors. However, I'd like to state right now that absolutely no entry will be allowed while hidden or invis, even by the home's owner. That last part may sound silly, but we even respect the privacy of your guests, and don't really want to create an environment where malicious homeowners could choose to spy on people they've given guest access to, or other visitors. Murder inside your home will not incur a criminal record, regardless of where your home is located.

Q. How does the storing items work?

HR-Trevor wrote:
Your item limit will work in conjunction with your furniture. You will only be able to store items inside furniture (chests, dressers, on a bed, whatever) and each furniture allows a small number of items, not based on weight, only on item count. So, in other words, to really score up lots of items, you'll have to have lots of furniture.

Q. Tell me more about fishing!

HR-Trevor wrote:
You'll be able to choose fresh or salt water. The actual fish contained within will be random and you'll be able to restock the water (basically remove all the fish and and a new set of random fish, in this case) at will.

You are essentially adding fishing to a lawn room. So you must have a lawn room. You can add fishing to every lawn room you have, if you want.

The fish are randomly picked for you based on the pond size and water type. They don't change on their own later.

Regarding fishing pulling from the treasure hopper: Glad you mentioned this, I hadn't considered it. But no, they won't.

Q. What happens if I can't pay my maintenance fees?

HR-Trevor wrote:
Maintenance must be paid every 30 days, real life time. Failure to pay renders a home "condemned" and it may no longer be accessed until the maintenance is paid. Maintenance is paid in advance, first month of maintenance is covered in the home's sale price. Maintenance fees do not accrue over multiple 30 day periods.

Q. What about storing stuff on the floor, like Eaxia?

HR-Trevor wrote:
Storage is only permitted within furnishings, storage on the floor of rooms in a home is not permitted and such items will be janitorized.

Q. What happens if I want to sell my home?

HR-Trevor wrote:
You may sell back a home for 100% of the cost of the home minus one month's maintenance fee. So for each home type, $197K, $738K, $2.565M, $6.42M, and $12.35M sell back. The value of items you've added to the home such as labs and such is not added to the sell back price. You can only own one home at any given time, so this gives you a way to start out with a smaller home then move up, or if you find a larger home is too costly to keep, you can move down to a smaller home. You forfeit all upgrades to the home itself.

Q. What about furnishings? Do we forfeit them also, and if not, how do we move them?

HR-Trevor wrote:
Furniture will be moved for you. What I'm looking to do at the moment is have furnishings placed in a "storage" location, until you pick up a new home and then you can have your things moved in.

Q. What happens if someone dies inside a home?

HR-Trevor wrote:
You will be moved outside of your home, to avoid potentially being a trapped corpse.

Q. Does making a lab/workroom count as one of your room additions?

HR-Trevor wrote:
No. You designate a room as a workshop/lab. It has no effect on the cosmetics of the room. You could, if you wished, make your living room a workshop. But, any given room can only have a single designation, so the limit of workshops/labs in your home is effectively the number of indoor rooms in your home.

Q. How about room descriptions, room titles, portals, etc.?

HR-Trevor wrote:
You'll be able to hide your furniture, by the way, if you wish. This is especially useful because you'll be able to custom build your room descriptions and you may not want an object to be in both the room description and the "You also see..." list, depending on preference.

You can change the title of any room in your home. Also, doors and other portals inside the home (including the exit door to outside) can be named as you wish, with some basic rules (like for the exit door, the name has to include the word "door").

You can also change the "adjective" of your portals, so if you have multiple doors in a room, for instance, you can set the adjectives to dfferent words so that you aren't forced to use first/second door when entering those portals.

As mentioned, you can also write your rooms' entire description as a GM would when we make rooms, and change that description at will.

Most of the changes you make to your home will be via a "design terminal" which uses a menu system with nested options.

You can add/remove portals to rooms at will, linking your rooms in any fashion you want, and you can edit the portal's adjective, noun (from a short list), and name (must include the noun).

You can also add cardinal directions (north, up, out, etc.) as desired.

Q. How about the facade of the house?

I suggest you click the following link, then purchase a voucher for $1,000,000 immediately. From what I understand, they won't be available after the festival.
http://www.haelrahv.com/messageboard/viewtopic.php?t=4322

Q. Where do we get furniture?

According to various GMs, furnishings will initially be available through stores only, but eventually will be craftable.

Q. Will it be possible to rent instead of buying?

HR-Trevor wrote:
Not in the current game instance.

Q. How do we know what type of home it is before we buy?

HR-Trevor wrote:
>look home
This large home has no owner. It appears to be on lot number 66.
The base purchase cost for this home is $6,500,000.
The monthly maintenance cost for this home is $80,000.
This type of home has four rooms normally and two additional rooms may be added.
This type of home has ample amounts of space for furnishings.
This type of home may store up to 200 personal belongings.
This type of home may have workshops, labs and other amenities installed.
This type of home may have a personal imaging center installed.
This type of home may have modest fishing access added.
This type of home has two lawn areas.

Q. Can we get a teaser of what's available as add-ons?

HR-Trevor wrote:

Q. Oooh, imaging centers. How will those work?

HR-Trevor wrote:
You'll have to pay, but less. Also, criminals will be able to image with their own home's imaging center (this is blocked in the public ones) but you'll pay a much higher fee. Only the home owner and their spouse will be able to use the imaging center.

Q. How about terrain? What does all this mean?

HR-Trevor wrote:
Firstly, mining doesn't exist in lawns. Foraging does, however. Every item you can forage depends on certain levels of terrain to be there for that item to be found there.

For instance, certain things may require X level of grass, Y level of fresh water, and Z level of rocky terrain. Adding terrain to a lawn area increases how many different things you can find there. You can add one terrain option for basic foraging, or you could add them all for maximum choice.

And yes, even sand is needed to find specific things.

RE Composting: For HR's purposes, it's just a snazzy term for boosting dirt/grass terrain levels.

Q. What about these design terminals, how do they work?

big ascii heart to dzynna for adding more information to this. one correction though on house resales, since this wasn't brought up in an overly noticed thread. this information includes more 'crat stuff, too.

HR-Trevor wrote:
Just as a follow-up to give some figures... of course these are subject to change, but here's what the system is set up for now and what I so far expect to use:

- Bureaucrats can reduce the cost to buy a home based on level, persuasion and charisma, up to a maximum of 10% reduction. This applies to homes for themselves or others.

- Bureaucrats automatically pay 10% less for landscaping and home design when working on their own homes. This does not apply for furnishings, nor can a Bureaucrat reduce these costs for other player's homes.

- Bureaucrats can -not- lower maintenance related costs.

- Homes may be sold back without Bureaucrat assistance and are sold back at a flat rate of 88% of the home's original value. Additions such as landscaping, remodeling, etc are not given any sell-back value.

- Sold homes revert to their status before they were purchased, so any changes including room additions, landscaping, etc are lost when a home is sold.

- Furnishings inside sold homes are moved to temporary storage and can only be retrieved by moving them into a new home. Any furnishing or other object inside a home must be removed before the home can be sold. Any player inside the home must leave before a home may be sold.

some details on altering the exterior, as well.
HR-Trevor wrote:
Okay, the full guidelines will be determined by Kyra who is doing the alterations for the vouchers she sold. However, some general guidelines:

- The noun of the CAN be changed.

- The name (what you see in the room if you LOOK, also called the "TAP" by some) should be pretty short. If you're past maybe 6-7 words, you're probably at the too long point. We don't need rooms flooded with text for anyone who just walks through.

- The look text can be quite long (a good, sturdy paragraph is okay) but not crazy (several paragraphs or a full-length novel would not be okay).

- Using active events in your text is a bad idea if they aren't "sustainable". If you have an aerok flying overhead in the home LOOK text, is this aerok flying forever all day until it falls out of the sky from exhaustion or what?

- Remember a sense of time. Sunshine or moonlight don't exist at the same time. If it's daytime and your LOOK mentions Ilafai casting a red glow, you're really in trouble because not only is moonlight not visible during the day, but Ilafai is also not always visible in that spot.

- Weather/climate too. It's not always raining, it's not always hot.

- Your home does need to be sensible. While Kyra might approve some strange home ideas, your chances of being shot down are pretty good if you want something just a little too insane either for HR or for the area the home is in. I'm gonna go on a limb here and say if your home idea seems questionable to you, you may want to email hr-hannah@haelrahv.com and ask her if your idea is too much.

- Finally, HAVE YOUR ALTERATION DETAILS READY BEFORE YOU SHOW UP. Have alternate ideas available just in case, too.

The following is from the Aramaris Realty meeting. While there was a LOT more, I left out all the non-pertinent crud and stuff that has been answered above...I think. Anyway, read on:

Kyra Arimaris asks, "Can I have your attention please?"

Kyra Arimaris says, "My brothers arrived in town today and brought with them an excellent team of exterior designers."

Kyra Arimaris gestures at Mogne Arimaris.

Kyra Arimaris gestures at Rastus Arimaris.

Kyra Arimaris says, "Therefore Arimaris Realty is proud to offer appointment slips for a personal exterior design consultation once our offices are open and you are able to purchase homes."

Kyra Arimaris says, "Now, appointments will be seen as often as I can find time."

Kyra Arimaris says, "And on that note... you may purchase the slip but remember, you will not be able to use it until you own a home."

Kyra Arimaris says, "I will warn you also. If you do not purchase one before the festival ends you are pretty much out of luck. Our team of designers have to go home when the fest ends."

Quote:
Jarvas Alaronde asks, "Question. For the slips.. is it JUST our home we can use them for.. or can they be redeemed on another's?"

Inaira S'real asks, "Are the slips for just our own homes?"

Kyra Arimaris says, "If you decide to give your slip to a friend, that friend can use it on their home."

Quote:
Dregonard Lefear asks, "Um ousing people ya jest here ta talk bouts exteriors or bout ousing too?"

Rastus Arimaris says, "If you have general housing questions we will do our best to answer those."

Quote:
Stilldawn Kagali asks, "So what your saying is you build it custom?"

Kyra Arimaris says, "They will redesign the exterior of your home."

Quote:
Dregonard Lefear asks, "Um its more an in ouse thing but are der gunna be omes wid pet areas in em?"

Josie Faethyn says, "It would be nice if we could leave our pets in our homes."

Dregonard Lefear says, "Jest be nice ifn i out huntin an wan my shaggy n scabby ta be safe indoors."

Kyra Arimaris says, "Oh. I understand you. Your home will be pet friendly if that is what you are asking."

Kyra Arimaris says, "And as for rooms, you can designate one a pet room if you wish."

Mogne Arimaris says, "You can make a room into a pet room if you like and leave pets there. Can leave pets in your home anywhere, actually."

Rastus Arimaris says, "And the cleaning services will leave your pets alone."

Quote:
Drusilla Monroe asks, "How will homes be sold .. first come first serve or auction style ?"

Kyra Arimaris says, "As far as I know, there are no plans for home auctions."

Quote:
Josie Faethyn asks, "Your booth will be open even after the fest comes and goes if we just buy a house and want to wait and do the landscaping at a later date?"

Josie Faethyn asks, "So we need to do it all now or never?"

Josie Faethyn says, "Well the landscaping, or building onto the home, that kind of thing."

Kyra Arimaris says, "This booth is a small small part of Arimaris Realty. You will not see it after the festival."

Kyra Arimaris asks, "Define do it all?"

Mogne Arimaris says, "Certain things will be open just for the festival, like this booth and some shops. Other shops, landscaping, etc will be available afterwards."

Kyra Arimaris says, "You can not do any of that here. Like I said, this booth is really a very small part of Arimaris Realty."

Mogne Arimaris says, "I will be doing landscaping in the realty at all times."

Kyra Arimaris says, "You can remodel and upgrade your home at any time after you purchase it. You will not do those things here."

Quote:
Kit Murphy asks, "Will we need a bureaucrat to purchase our home for us? How does that work exactly?"

Kyra Arimaris says, "Yes you will, I do hope you know a friendly bureaucrat."

Quote:
Dregonard Lefear says, "Um is yas got any plans fer omes closer ta nature ? i seen some nice omes in da forest and by da lake but was looken fer a smaller ome round der abouts."

Kyra Arimaris turns to Dregonard Lefear and says, "I can't answer that yet. It is possible there will be more homes discovered. Not a promise though."

Quote:
Dregonard Lefear asks, "Um dis be a bit ard ta ask but ya know we hasta pays fer maintenance is der any ways we ken say skip da maintenance and learn repair so we ken fix up our omes oursels when dey git rundown?"

Kyra Arimaris says, "Nice thought, but no."

Quote:
Josie Faethyn asks, "Where is your office at?"

Mogne Arimaris says, "You will find out soon enough, young lady."

Kyra Arimaris says, "We are keeping the main office a secret at the moment."

Quote:
Dregonard Lefear says, "Asked ifn more n one person could buy a ome and share it."

Rastus Arimaris says, "Only one person can actually own a home."

Quote:
Inaira S'real says, "Will the furniture shops be around after the festival also, I'm hoping."

Kyra Arimaris says, "Oh yes."

Kyra Arimaris says, "Many of them."

Mogne Arimaris says, "Some will be around."

Mogne Arimaris says, "A few won't be."

Kyra Arimaris says, "We have furniture store owners coming from all over Haelrahv actually."

Mogne Arimaris says, "Anxious to get some of your money."

Kyra Arimaris says, "We are quite pleased with the turnout actually."

Quote:
Acosae Eshai asks, "The cost of the home incorporates the DESIGN process, right? There aren't going to be any hidden fees associated with that?"

Acosae Eshai says, "Well, I meant designing the basics of the house. Landscaping I can understand."

Josie Faethyn says, "But if you want fur rugs it won't cost more than....wood floors."

Inaira S'real asks, "You mean paint and all taht?"

Mogne Arimaris says, "There are a few fees."

Mogne Arimaris says, "For example."

Kyra Arimaris says, "Landscaping costs quite a bit."

Mogne Arimaris says, "If you want a pond, its gonna cost ya."

Kyra Arimaris says, "My brothers aren't cheap."

Kyra Arimaris says, "As does adding rooms."

Kyra Arimaris says, "No, the use of the design software is free."

Mogne Arimaris says, "Most of the interior design will be included in house price."

Mogne Arimaris says, "Landscaping is extra."

Kyra Arimaris says, "You are misunderstanding. However, I find myself amused and think you should wait and try out the design terminals because explaining isn't helping."

Mogne Arimaris says, "Some furnishings you can do right in the design room at the realty."

Mogne Arimaris says, "Lets just say that you will want to avail yourselves of the design terminal AND the furniture shops."

Quote:
Josie Faethyn says, "Do you have a certain time that you will be starting the sale of houses...so i can mark it in my calendar."

Kit Murphy asks, "Will you be announcing it a bit in advance?"

Mogne Arimaris says, "No, we wont be announcing that this evening."

Kyra Arimaris says, "That is up to Daddy and we aren't even sure when he will decide to open the main office doors."

Rastus Arimaris says, "It could be a complete surprise to all of us."

Quote:
Inaira S'real asks, "Your slips say exterior renovators, does that mean to change the whole outside of the homes?"

Kyra Arimaris says, "That slip will totally renovate the exterior of your home."

Quote:
Inaira S'real asks, "Any way we can get a complete custom home made? Do you have workers that can grade an area that doesn't already have a home on it?"

Kyra Arimaris turns to Inaira S'real and says, "I'm not sure."

Kyra Arimaris turns to Inaira S'real and says, "That is a very touchy subject. Finding the land, contractors, designers... large project. You understand."

Code:
Mogne Arimaris says, "Alright since you have no questions...let me clarify some points."

Mogne Arimaris says, "Lets say you picked the prefect little house for you."

Mogne Arimaris says, "You find your friendly neighborhood bureaucrat."

Mogne Arimaris says, "I'm going to give you an idea what happens then."

Mogne Arimaris says, "You know your lot number from the house you picked...you buy the house."

Mogne Arimaris says, "Now, you step into one of our offices...Rastus, or mine."

Mogne Arimaris says, "You will want to DESIGN your home."

Mogne Arimaris says, "You will step over to one of our high tech design terminals.."

Mogne Arimaris says, "And our special software will guide you through the process of designing your rooms."

Mogne Arimaris says, "You can pick your own wall colors and treatments, your own floor coverings, etc."

Mogne Arimaris says, "Literally unlimited in what you can design."

Mogne Arimaris says, "You will be able to add landscaping features in my office."

Mogne Arimaris says, "Such as trees, ponds, rocks, sand.."

Mogne Arimaris says, "You have your home and you have designed your rooms and your exterior landscaping."

Mogne Arimaris says, "Then, you will want to shop at a furniture store and pick furnishings."

Mogne Arimaris says, "They will be delivered to your home at no charge."

Mogne Arimaris says, "Certain items, like lamps, or quilts, you will carry to your home."

Mogne Arimaris says, "So, there is much for you to do at the Realty company before you actually enter your home, unless you want to enter a home that is...nondescript."

Some of the information above is a little outdated, so here's a tid bit from another thread on storage:

Trevor wrote:
