i always found it odd that 'crat computers can get all fudged up from virii stuff but droids and drones never need any upkeep.

i know techs can hack them to improve certain things, but there's never any need to maintain what is probably the most complicated bit of technology in the game at the time.

while i don't know how much techs would love to repair their robot pals too often, i do keep getting this feeling that many techs just want to sometimes play the repairman on their fancy tech toys. fixing their bots could be a good way for a tech to play as someone who likes fixing technology without having to resort to sitting around CC asking people if they want their comm chips repaired.

This must stop!

P.S. I'm all for having droids require constant upkeep and repair.

I'm very against constant upkeep and repair. How often do you repair your TV/radio/computer moniter/computer hardware?? its bad enough we need to spend 14 mins daily if we want to upkeep our gadet knolage.

there's a difference between constant upkeep and not having to take care of something that is extremely beneficial to you.

spells have to be cast over and over to keep the bonus. upkeep. spellsongs have to be resong. meditations constantly drain at focus. knives dull. materials run out. so on. it makes sense to upkeep things. it also gives techs a reason to remember they have a droid other than occasional room messaging.

I'd be against a lot of upkeep as well. When we get to droid combat and they get busted, I'd fix them. But just random viruses? I already RP that Beast has a virus with his 'meatbag' and 'fleshsack' vocab...and the way he sometimes goes insane and attempts to kill people.

there's a difference between lots of upkeep and no upkeep at all. look at how organizers work. if a crat leaves one on 24/7, the virii can add up. but if used when only needed, all is well.

right now a droid can be set to follow someone, left on forever, and just become a mobile bonus item. i don't think they should be that way. this would make it so a tech has to do something to a droid beyond hacking it. it would encourage some more interaction between techs and thier bots. right now they don't really ask for anything other than some initial money.

okay, but there is a balance to that aswell.. drones and droid's always stay with the same bonus. (yes there is hacking but there is no real bonus from it). spellsongs/meditations/results from creating thing are constantly getting better as your level gets higher.

there are no supplys used from the slight bonus we get to skills. and the only upkeep I'm not against is having to change the battery once a month.

the issue here just sounds like you're against having to take care of your robot. it's kind of hard to argue that when that's the entire thing i'm saying should be required.

it is taken care of, I treat my drone well.
I'm against adding in something that wouldnt be needed in RL. I believe the real goal in HR is to have realism. the robot is mostly just hardware, it doesnt use any supplies past power. How often do you need to repair your car/tv/radio/micowave? I said I'm against constant upkeep, not against needing repair.

Takes my crat over a week to get viruses on his organizer... And he's in all the time of late.

Yaru, you're being argumentative for the sake of being argumentative over nothing really. I can't remember the last time I've put Beast in any mode at all except for Dixie. Droids are an RP tool to me mostly. I love interactions with Beast. He's my own little mobile NPC.

Droids, to me, are the tech's 'special ability.' It's their little profession thing that makes them particularly unique.

I wouldn't be against upkeep, but right now there's nothing TO upkeep. Organizers have to be fixed because they are electronics. Droids are like familiars 'in that other game.' You have to do a shit load of errands, save up a shit load of money, and you can't even install everything into a droid until you're way past mid level. Not only are they an on going expense, but the way to obtain them can be difficult and annoying. That alone is the reason why I don't agree with upkeep. Play a tech to 60th level so you can get everything in your droid and then we'll talk.

And like I said, it'd be different if it was repairs. There's no reason to have upkeep in my own opinion. If anything, techs over level 50 should be able to have their droids to more than they can now.

Na, the goal of HR is to be fun, and one of the main building blocks of that goal is to immerse you into a role. That role doesn't not have to be patterned entirely from realism, and in fact, we often deviate from realism because doing so improves the immersion in some way. A good example would be magic, for instance.

Agreed. Can you imagine what it'd be like if it took an artisan several real life days to make one gown?

Random observation: the main reason being proposed against droid upkeep appears to be because of how some people personally roleplay with their own droids.

If I roleplayed that I took care of all of my instruments and then played them with the most delicate touch, would that negate my need to keep them in tune?
