I can tell you that today was...problematic. Unfortunately my ISP decided to have its bi-monthly 'screw-up and drop you from your internet connection repeatedly' right at that time. I got booted like 4 times in a row, but was usually able to log back in before it even showed the "<person> has departed from Haelrahv" message. So most likely you were getting that message due to him actually being physically gone from the game.
And yes, today he was trying to have his hired guns divert all your attentions away from something else...unfortunately those hoodlums aren't exactly brilliant and attacked instead of diverting.

Hopefully next time I can spy! Not that a 12 foot robot can really...hide..well..there is the stealth option...
