Just a random idea, what if Trackers could make healing balms out of natural resources, like able to make their own dermagel? Don't see why can't use some kind of herbalism skill of any kind. _________________ "In view of the fact that God limited the intelligence of man, it seems unfair that he did not also limit his stupidity."

I like this idea. Perhaps they could make stronger versions of Dermagel or the like.

Yea, and/or dermaplaz similarity as well. After all, they are more in tune with nature than any other profession. _________________ "In view of the fact that God limited the intelligence of man, it seems unfair that he did not also limit his stupidity."

What makes you think dermagel/dermaplaz is natural as opposed to a waste byproduct of the military-industrial complex? _________________ ** The phrase "break a leg" just wasn't ambitious enough for Mellie Knight. [8:31 pm]

^.^; I can see it now...the new healing stuff is leaves they chew and spit into containers. Eww!
I see dermagel not as natural, but as technological. It's not natural for herbs to heal you instantly. It does, however, make sense that some biochemist constructed together a foruma of chemicals -- and perhaps some natural ingrediants -- to form dermagel and dermaplaz. _________________ "I reject your reality and substitute my own!" -- Adam Savage

If Dragonball Z can have sensu beans, I bet a fantasy planet named Haelrahv can have a few herbal remedies that works similarly along the lines of dermagel/plaz.
Not that I'm defending Galeth or anything, but I figured when he mentioned Trackers being able to make their own dermagel/plaz he meant something with similar effects. Not like "forage for dermagel" or something.

but that giant robot that follows kit around is common happenstance these days.
i think it's safe to say that the "but it doesn't work that way in reality" type defenses aren't that valid. not to say natural herbs should heal instantly, but if the only defense is "but reality doesn't work like that!" then the defense is rather weak. _________________ A bright-eyed Thekko Ku Kalla dressed in a dapper sailor suit takes to flight and careers through the air toward the Modan Kucho and slams into him!

What about the Honda robot? And all the nursing robots? And the robot dog from Sony? There's nothing like Beast just yet, but there WILL be. It's not improbable at all. Seeing as how HR is 600 years after us, it makes sense.
Take cyber limbs. 50 years ago there were just hooks. Now there are whole arms that can me moved by THOUGHT. They take the nerves that use to control finger and wrist movement and stick them in the chest...then when the brain thinks that the person wants to move his wrist, the artificial limb MOVES. In another 50 years, we'll have cybergear with fingers that looks almost normal. And 50 years after that, there will be a touch sensation in those limbs and you won't be able to tell that they were amputated to begin with.
I'm not sure what you're arguing anyhow. This is a Sci-Fi game and science fiction is grounded in reality and expanded. Besides, there's a huge difference between natural aloe and neosporin. And healing plants are more fantasy RPG than science fiction. So yes, to me, in the debate of healing plants versus biochemical salve...biochemical salve makes more sense in my mind then unprocessed plants.
I'd think that making healing anything would be medical anyhow. Trackers could go out and find the raw materials, but medics would be the sort to create the healing salve. _________________ "I reject your reality and substitute my own!" -- Adam Savage

I think its a nice idea, and I do remember there being some homemade dermagel sold at the isle of Myst. So why not make it possible? Maybe make this a tracker and medic ability. Chewing some juju leaves and spitting it in a container doesnt sound so bad. We gots people with who knows what infesting in their feets stomping on grapes to make fine wine. _________________ Lick or Be Licked |

I'd see it as the equivalent of allowing Medics to extract bones for urjakanas, or a profession be able to build clockwork automatons to follow them around; that is, someone's niche getting imposed on in a different theme. _________________ Mickey Brunner

it can always be made to work llike silk weaving.
trackers can find the herbs that make the dermagel which medics process it to make the dermagel.
that way medics still have control over things. it also gives them something to sell. _________________ A bright-eyed Thekko Ku Kalla dressed in a dapper sailor suit takes to flight and careers through the air toward the Modan Kucho and slams into him!

Uhm.. Actually, my idea was more along the lines of Trackers could mix some herbs and use a special mortar and pestle, or something similar, to grind them together, and or extract salve (SP) from certain leaves that were foragable. But whatever works. _________________ "In view of the fact that God limited the intelligence of man, it seems unfair that he did not also limit his stupidity."

i don't think the issue isn't that it wouldn't make sense for a tracker to be able to go all survivalist and make his or her own medicinal goop, but more that by making said goop you infringe on the rather focused scope of what a medic is in haelrahv.
that's why i was saying it would be, in my mind, more possible to request for trackers (and only trackers) to have the ability to forage special herbs that medics (and only medics) can process into dermagel.
that way trackers can be masters of finding things in the wild with medics still being masters of healing. noone loses out. _________________ A bright-eyed Thekko Ku Kalla dressed in a dapper sailor suit takes to flight and careers through the air toward the Modan Kucho and slams into him!

not to step on anyones toes (and this post is not because i myself am a tracker, i would feel this way regardless) but there are a few instances where professions intertwine with abilities.
Paths are teh first thing that come to my mind. At first only mages could do that sorta thing, then trackers got circles, psi have instant recall, performers have spellsong (i believe) and even artisans can now go through a portal that lands them in echak.
Poisons were spose to be agent only and i believe..if i remember right they are going back to being profession only kinda thing. but as of now most professions can do them
Sigils were spose to be guardian thing but reading over them noticed that there are four for everyone and four for guardians. Granted the "everyone" sigils are weaker and defense only but in my opinion that should be a guardian only thing regardless. Not only that but mercs have techniques which are basically a form of guardian meditation because they enhance combat and that too, runs on mana and is powered by essense.
Heck i was hunting today and Glim came up with a great idea for a tracker mating call which would be similar to lure. I know alot of hunters/outdoors men use callers to lure their animals/prey to them, so would that be infringing on a performer’s spellsong? To me a tracker would be the one to have that kind of ability not an entertainer. And i would absolutely love to see that come into play as well
So after all my rambling, all i’m saying is... its a great idea Galeth and i hope that they put it into effect because even if they did make it available to medics and trackers, it would still be beneficial to everyone and really thats more important than "only this profession should do it" kind of thing.
I know theres alot that are still "profession only" which don’t get me wrong is fine with me, but to say that its infringing on medics by allowing trackers to make a kind of natural remedy isnt really accurate, in fact if a natural remedy would come out i could see trackers over medics making it. Now like kit said some kind of biologic remedy i could see medics making. And maybe that kind would be more potent than a natural remedy. I dunno, now I’m rambling so I’ll shush. _________________ Neifl Cacambo - "Anyone have change for a tampon?"
