So we don't conflict news that makes you angry with sites that... make you angry.

To start:

http://www.boingboing.net/2005/06/07/hollywood_foots_bill.html

My suggestion to Hollywood -- use the next $186k to hire writers to make movies that aren't disappointing remakes of favorites of bygone eras.

"These cameras ... will help (the LAPD) to lift a rock and shine a light on rampant counterfeiting of DVDs, which used to take place in the dark shadows,"

dark shadows in manhattan = out in public on broadway on a sunny day?

Like, what? Child pornography and narcotics-trafficking? I suppose if any criminal offense belongs in that echelon of heinous crimes, it's selling third-world quality DVDs of bad movies.

Santee Alley was reportedly selected because the area is frequented by naive tourists who are easy targets for pirates, Bratton said.

I love how they turn this into a supposed crime against consumers, deflecting a blow away from greed. Naive tourists who are easy targets for what... cheap DVD's that contain the same stuff they could pay more for from a more "honest, upstanding" salesperson? Yeah, that's a real scourge. I'm sure those tourists are weeping over the money they saved and demanding action downtown.

Sorta like a more religiousy, horrible version of the Vietnam protestors. Don't picket dead people! Go picket recruitment offices.

I disagree 100% with the war in Iraq, but I'd never in a million years begrudge the military, especially the dead, their personal choice to defend the U.S. with life and limb.

It speaks volumes about a group that uses the word of God as black magic to condemn anyone they disagree with/dislike.

I'm all about freedom of speech, no matter how horrible. And even though I'm not religious, I don't begrudge people to being fanatical...like Arab terrorists and Fundamental Christians. Yes, their beliefs tend to hurt themselves and other people, but by law, every hateful thing that they say and believe are protected by law. If people want to protest things, though, more power to them. But jeez, protest to people that can change/conform. The dead just can't.

I myself am in the military and I love the military. No I'm not making a career out of it and I may not enjoy everything about it , but all the same, there is a bond you form on some level with everyone in the armed forces. My heart goes out to his family to have to endure losing their child AND having to deal with the heartless, uncaring actions of others. I also do not agree with the war in Iraq, but when my time comes, I'm going to put on my desert uniform and head off to the sandbox; just like all of those before me. Its my obligation to do so.

If I wasn't ready for the consequences of war/conflict, I wouldn't have signed the dotted line. (Bear in mind, those consequences being that I may become injured or killed defending the rights of our citizens, NOT being attacked either verbally or otherwise by those I put my life on the line for.) If people are unhappy with the war and the POITICS that drive it, then be mad at the politicians, not the people who are just doing their job. If you don't like the war, as I also don't, write your local politician. If that doesn't work, VOTE. Help us help you.

Edit: I just found out yesterday that I may be building sandcastles by september of next year unless plans change. Keep in mind, this is a very tenative thing, but I thought you should all know how close to home this article is for me. I would feel horrible for my family to have to deal with something like this if I were lost in war.

I have many friends that are in the military. Some of whom have been to Iraq, some are there now, and some who are going, but they all say this is their job, they chose to do it, and now their going to do that job, to the best of their ability. They might be fighting in Iraq, but their fighting for us. I think we're there for BS reasons but, even if you disagree with the war, make sure our soldiers know you support them for putting their ass out there for you.

At this point if we were to pull out, I belive Iraq would be taken over by Muslim extremist, who will force the Iraqi people to live how they see fit, as per their disturbing interpretation, of what is usually a peaceful religion. What would that make us? Have any of you seen "Hotel Rwanda"? The world just watched and did nothing but the obligatory lips service. What about the Oil, I am not sure how or if they could access it but that is a lot of money in the wrong hands. That is pretty damn scary.

I'd point out that Saddam Hussein's installment as the ruler of Iraq was an American (CIA) innovation intended to bulwark against [what was then] the encroaching threat of Communism, but that's better left to another thread.

Anyway, yeah... it heartens me to see that we're all generally on the same page where the Armed Forces are concerned, regardless of politics.

well, not news. just, uh, facts?

your kid might turn homosexual if...

1. A strong feeling that they are “different” from other boys.
2. A tendency to cry easily, be less athletic, and dislike the roughhousing that other boys enjoy.
3. A persistent preference to play female roles in make-believe play.
4. A strong preference to spend time in the company of girls and participate in their games and other pastimes.
5. A susceptibility to be bullied by other boys, who may tease them unmercifully and call them “queer,” “fag” and “gay.”
6. A tendency to walk, talk, dress and even “think” effeminately.
7. A repeatedly stated desire to be — or insistence that he is — a girl.

Why is it that girls can be tomboys and not be gay but boys can't be....less boyish without being gay? Is that the new term Metrosexual? What would qualify a man as metrosexual as opposed to homosexual?
