I have played FFXI, and i know what you meant.
However if you have played FFXI, one thing to note is that in towns, there is NO chance of fishing up a monster, only outside town do such a possibility happens.
I want to fish because it gives me a relaxing time away from other activities and be laid back for a while. It may seems exciting to you folks who can slaughter beasts that jumps out of the water, but have you considered those newbies who just want to catch a fish?
Unless fishing within certain areas are 'Safe' and some are made 'Risky but Profitable', i will rather Not have Mister Jaws pay a visiting to ruin my day.

On that note, it's really quite difficult for a newbie to fish. In fact, your first few levels or so I think it's pretty much impossible to catch anything.
