I was chatting with Jade and we came up with this cool idea.

When fishing there could be a possibility of catching something 'dangerous'. A hostile mob that attacks you.

It would be an additional deterrent to those who afk script fishing as a by product, as well as giving the whole fishing thing a new twist.

and now, here are a few of my second thoughts:

1) 'combat fishing' like that sounds fun, if the chance of catching such a fish is low. i understand that sometimes, folks might just want to fish for the economic value, or other reasons.

2) if there was the chance to get a mob, there need to be some precautions to ensure that bystanders (hiders, folks sitting at the fishing area but daydreaming) arent attacked. perhaps the fish could be made to only target the person who caught it.

or those people can just know not to be afk in an area that can risk combat.

that's like saying afkers in nowbi should be given a way to not be attacked while resting afk in nowbi.

Once they die, the nowbi will stop attacking.

Smile im not familiar with FFXI, but i would still have a lot of fun with it if it could be worked-in. and yes, yaru: folks always could leave a strictly hunting area, and assume the risk if they remain there. but i think tshar was proposing something that would be a fishing spot most of the time, and a chance for combat much less often.

So long as there's also a chance of being pulled under...I'm all for it.

Now Why would anyone want to make fishing Hazardous I have no Idea but the premise to fishing is sitting back and feeding the fish all your bait . The problem with afk scipting is handled the same as it is game wide ..I should be left that way.. don't fix it if its no broke..

It's just adding another element to the activity, similar to how the treasure system now works with fishing.

i guess the way i see it is this. I like the way fishing is because i hate hunting and it still pays me decently. Why should "everything" have to be dangerous in order for it to be fun? I still get excited everytime i see a fin come out of the water. I still try to outbest the other high catch scores. Just because a few of you get bored with it doesn't mean that it needs something "more".

I enjoy just spending time fishing and relaxing no having to worry about being mobbed or beaten up. just like people have been told, if you dont want to be killed stay away from danger. well if you don't want to be bored then just stay away from fishing. *shrugs*

Well, you know, I'm sure some places could be made danger-proof or at least have a very low chance of something popping up and saying "Boo!". So it wouldn't be like every single puddle of water means instant-death.
