Ok, I don't think this goes in the Geography folder, but I'm putting it here anyway. Weather.. geography. Whatever.

The Question: Is weather going to be the same no matter where you are on Haelrahv? Example -- In Sector A, it's snowing, and in Garden Z (on the otherside of the globe, mind you), it's snowing as well.

Yes, Jocelyn is correct. Weather isn't done yet, but will vary based on area of the globe. Every room in the game will have longitude/latitude coordinates, allowing us to do things such as weather in this way. And through Zoz's hard work and determination to overcome math hell, the moons and sun appear as they should in various areas. While it is dark in some places, it is daytime in others.

Additionally, we're working out stuff whereby characters (might be Tracker only, not sure yet...) can determine where prominent landmarks and cities are in relation to their current position, as in tell that Warglale is northeast, etc.

Frickin YAY!

Thats another one of those really annoying things in DR, same weather/moons in orbit everywhere, at the same time.

It'll be really dang cool to have it all sunny and warm in one place, and have a howling storm in another. Think of the RP.

So, since everyone else can revive ancient threads, I think I can too. I thought I'd make sure if weather was still going to be an aspect to look forward to in Live.

Also, while rereading the posts here, you mentioned specific longitudes and latitudes for every room, Trevor. Do you think it would be possible to get a GPS device (perhaps even a cyber implant or something) that gave you those numbers with a SURVEY? They might come in handy somewhere, somehow.

And another thing. Are we going to worry about seasons being inverted once you cross the equator? Like it will be Wiv in the northern hemisphere, but it will be opposite-of-Wiv in the southern hemisphere.

Something else! How about random factors (El Nino = win) that totally go against the grain of a season's natural weather? I'm sure Jacksonville is going through the same thing South Georgia is. It's cold as all hell right now, but about a week ago it was pretty warm.. and it will probably be warm in another week, too. Or should we just expect the weather to be pretty normalized on Haelrahv?

I wasn't going to say anything until it was done, but to commemorate the revival occasion -- I'm in the midst of building a huge hunting area that features its own custom-coded weather engine. I've been monitoring the climate control for well over a month now, and at the risk of tooting my own horn, I'm extremely satisfied with it. With that in mind, I'd prefer seeing localized weather find its way to Live.

On a side note, it's a good idea to figure out basic time zones. I pathed once to Echak and had no way back. Thats how I figured out there was a system there to give an accurate idea of the planetary alignments.

I was wondering about weather and whether. Whether there will be different forms of it. Rain, snow, sleet, etc. I think it'd be kind of cool if droids rusted because they were out in the elements too long. I'm sure you GM types have probably already thought of it, any metal can rust (armor, etc.) Artisans will be good at repairing armor as I recall. I can see them working on droids/drones then also.

Anyway, just a thought and a query.

Does drachna rust?

Only iron rusts...but what about Haelrahvian metals?

And shouldn't diamonsilk armor (a huge cost, ugh), protect against rusting? ^.^ I'm only asking because...well...Beast is made out of drachna and covered in diamondsilk...which probably won't rust.

Though, the expensive armors could come in handy that way.
