We need to add a bit more to the description, considering we have many that do come from DR and the picture of the concept picture of the Darju is somewhat lending to that of a Prydaen.

After a nice blow up on comm, after one not listening to what others thought. And then another pointing out that one Darju out of the many we have actually does look like a kitty, it caused some of us to have a discussion about it in CC.

In order to create less confusion and misunderstanding, maybe we can add to the description on the website.

Since the artwork has already been established, a note in the description making clear that the Darju are not felinoid would help clear misconceptions.

i support this change also. put the wordage where it will be noticed by players trying to get a first impression. the balance of responsibility to be made up by other darju players who know the case about darju.

I also agree. Maybe rewording the mantle to read back hair or tuft of hair. And I think the other confussion is what the different markings. I don't know how that could be worded. I always thought the markings were from a particular tribe of sorts. I think that's where the confussion lies. The current description was easy enough for me to follow just those people that morgana mentioned just need a little clarification. or direct them to those discussions that were about darju appearance somewhere on the boards. Isn't there a book somewhere in the library about Darjus from that one discussion from that one person in that one place <i have a shoddy memory> This might clear some confussion. Also the pictures do look nice i applaud the image, (no i'm not knocking the pictures they are very well done) i understand the ears and the markings are to appear alien so yeah. Wink

Five out of five Darju agree, Darju aren't cats.

I never really got a "feline" feel out of the Darju description, because to me a mantle is a mantle and not a mane. I'm not personally sure how I feel about a disclaimer in the racial description because I think it'll either A: Disrupt the continuity of the race description for the sake of a footnote for people that won't read it anyway, or B: Invariably lead the reader to think that it's a frequent in-character misconception by other races, which hasn't been my experience with the game consistency since I started.

Further, count me in on the agreement that if you aren't Darju, you can butt out of the debate; particularly if you're playing the devil's advocate for no reason other than to be an argumentative wank.

Six out of six.

Taking into consideration the number of people who come to HR from DR, I think its important to seperate Darju from Prydean. I agree that a portion of that falls into the hands of Darju players, but I think it would be a great help if it was a bit more clear in teh racial description.

i have to admit, darju come off as a cat race to me, but more a Thundercats kind of cat race, and not mew mew pretty kitty cat race.

they never came off as really humanoid like cats, but cat like humaniods.

i think that makes sense.

Well, I have two darju, one I play almost as heavily as Kit...moreso now because he's at -5 EXP...which means he sits around and does nothing while he draaaaaaaaaaains. I don't think it's fair to say: "If you don't play a darju, you can't have an opinion."

...game people. It's a game. And the races page is exceptionally misleading. Also, if you privately tell people -- without using the word 'fuck' -- that darju aren't cats, though it's a common misconception -- I'm sure you can EASILY nip things like this in the bud. However, having people on the comms get hostile over nothing was both amusing, and a bit troubling. GAME remember?

Zamde said that:

It had been my comment about that.

The issue with me was - I attempted to tell her privately in a very non-aggressive OOC manner that Darju weren't cat-like and where she could read up on them. Her public response was pretty nasty and just completely blew off what she'd just been (I found out later) informed by not just me, but several people in private. It was only afterward my character got hostile (which is very IC for her) about it and called her brain damaged for thinking she was a feline.

What irritated me more than her ignorance was having individuals (who aren't Darju - regardless of whether they play a Darju or not - the character speaking was not Darju) stepping into the conversation and basically saying, "She can be whatever she wants to be.".

My character was extremely offended by her actions. Anything relating Darju to felines is obnoxious to her. And that's beyond the obvious fact that I personally find it to be horrible RP, She either 1) didn't do any research on the race before she rolled one up, or 2) Didn't care...which is even worse, IMO. Backing her up only made it worse for the characters AND the players who were trying to dissuade her from poor roleplay.

While we're at it, please clarify the Eolai section to mention that they are not, in fact, Elves/Pixies/Faeries/whatever.

Likewise, Jaddan are not, in fact, Gor'Tog/Trolls/Ogres/whatever.

And humans are not the same as modern day humans. For comparison, it would be like saying that the culture of those from the middle ages is the culture we have today. Though, unfortunately, alteri are a lot like gnomes with their tinkerings.

Gnomes tinker with mechanical things. Alteri apparently tailor and are more interested in fashion than technology (generalization). I mean, they make their own gaudy clothing for crying out loud.

But anyway, Yaru's Thundercat comparison was good. I've kind of viewed the Darju like that, too. They weren't completely feline and they weren't completely humanoid; rather, they were caught in the middle. While Darju are, by consensus, not feline at all, I think it's hard to disprove that they don't share common characteristics.
