Yeah.. what Rich said. I only said I was thinking about it - I never said I was definately going to do it ("it" being lockers for gadget-related items). I definately won't be adding special rooms with extended rent times, since the rent times were reduced for purpose of letting everyone get a chance to use the rooms. I keep getting asked for a lounge or "break room", and that's possible, but extended rent times and people's own workshops, well.. no.

The gadget-only lockers seemed viable since everyone has a chance to get the parts, and everyone can repair the parts, but it doesn't seem as if everyone IS using the parts, so I doubt they'll be put in. As William said, multiple containers.. they work great. And with containers that hold hundreds of pounds out there, there really isn't any reason to make lockers with special compartments other than for the purpose of extreme organization.

Two things that I randomly thought of:

1. How about a gadget donation bin of sorts? One that would only accept gadget parts and could only hold so many at a given time (say 50 lbs worth?). The only problem with this, I guess, is that people could possibly start using it like a locker. And people already put gadget parts in the donation bin in CC. But, whatever, it might work somehow.

2. Well, I lied since the second idea totally escaped me as I sat here to type it out. Wheee.

I think there's a limit to how much one can reasonably expect or even hope for, in sake of their specific profession. Getting extra locker space no one else gets, and your own workshops, for example, seems excessive. The workshops would be fine if they're public, but private workshops? In homes sure, but that's it. If you don't want a workshop in your home, you'll need to do your work in public.

Adding a major system because another major system will take a while is also not a good design plan.

I had been thinking about private workrooms in Live....which hopefully will be AFTER we get homes.

Drake, are you still thinking about making bags we can buy with different compartments to hold different things? I don't know about the rest of you, but I don't like massive discriptions when people look at me, so I don't like the idea of adding MORE containers to Kit. There also won't be an excess of parts when we can start to do gadgets. I save them all now because the things I hunt in the fens no longer teach me, I can't hit grags, don't want to go up to chodaku to hunt, and I don't want to forage. Parts repair = experience. As soon as we start using up parts or can see which parts it pays to keep and which to chuck, I don't see this to be a problem. The tools weigh more then parts do anyhow.

I, personally, carry around all of my gadget parts, except when I fill up a box and mail them to Kit's cousin who is kindly letting him her mailbox because she doesn't get mail anyhow.

I don't think it's unfair for the time being, considering we have a gazillion gadget parts that, once repaired, are basically useless. Unlike tailoring, we can't take those parts and make something out of them and then sell it. We HAVE to hold them until the gadget system is fully operational. I don't think it's unfair at all to ask for storage space specifically for those parts -- at least until we can USE them.

Yes! I want an office for ElectriCat! Though, not having to mail repaired parts to my other PC would be kinda nice.

a thin layer of roleplay doesn't not make it system abuse.

It's certainly is not systems abuse. Kit pleaded if he could send her packages to hold safe for him because his apartment is ceiling high with boxes and she agreed.

c'mon now, really. while i'm not saying two characters that are both played by the same person should never interact, but the mail system was never intended to be treated as a vault.

you know that using the mail system as a storage space is the reason why people can't mail to their own characters on the same account, right? it was set up that way so people wouldn't use other characters as storage mules.

it's system abuse. you know you're circumventing the purpose of the vault system by using it.

you're not stupid, and i'm quite sure that you realize saying "but i asked my other character nicely!" is just a silly way to excuse yourself for system abuse.

It's like this. You mail yourself tons of boxes, they're put in a bin, and the no level character gets to hold it. The only systems abuse there is having the system box it all up into something easy to hold onto. Namely: ten boxes become 1 bin. I could just use the other 5 characters on that account to hold the stuff, but it's easier just to 'bin' it. As of right now, techs are at a disadvantage. We have all of these parts, and we have absolutely nothing to do with them. So, until I have a place to put stuff, I'm going to have to have several mules (apprentices) holding binned boxes of stuff. Worse yet, I have to have my tracker and my artisan weighed down with containers filled with parts....and I RP that my tracker and Kit aren't friendly towards each other, so it's not a good situation Why? I don't know what I'll need. I don't know what I can build. And right now, I'm not throwing anything away. Just in case. It's hard to find parts now. I can spend an hour hunting and find one tube. If there was a parts warehouse, that would be awesome. If I could pay 100k a month to rent out a space, I'd do that. But I can't. So I have to get around it this way. If it's a real problem, then Trevor will install a system that allows only so much to be mailed to a person at one time..and then I'll have to have each mule hold two boxes. I wish these parts weighed nothing...but they're damned heavy!

Just because there aren't any game mechanics that prevent it doesn't mean it isn't wrong on some level.

No worries, I rolled up the rest of my mule types and two have plenty of locker space for Kit's parts. A much better, happier way to go about putting parts away...a horde of happy techies with big old backpacks and vaults filled with parts.
