A'la my current campaign of Shadowrun (the tabletop rp version of a lot of HR...or think Johnny Mnemonic which is based off of a guy that wrote novels based off of Shadowrun), the roleplay session yesterday with Gawyn and his specimens, and Faith's hyposprays, I have been musing on this idea.
My character in Shadowrun is what my GM calls a Mod. A Mod is someone that elects to have illegal genetic therapy that recombines their DNA with the DNA of an animal. The price paid for modification is steep. One would go to DT Inc, 13th level, for gene therapy. They'd combine your DNA with the DNA of an animal (let's say a kashaga). Your muscles get beefier...it's random how much. Begining sessions would do very little to increase anything, but also have very small possibilities of side effects. Side effects are mutations. As you get more and more mods done to you, physical mutations become apparent. In the case of kashaga, the person could be covered in furr. They could grow ears, a tail, retractable claws as more of their genes become fused with a kashaga. Other sorts of mod mutations: feathers, wings, scales, fangs, forked tongue...
There can also be other things that can go wrong... Suppose you want to combine your DNA with an asapi so that you can...I dunno...spout obsenities randomly. If you're level 20 when you do this, a dangerous side effect can be that your muscles deteriorate because an asapi is so much weaker then you.
Each session would only raise a stat 1 point...and because it's part of your DNA, you keep it when you image and restore. The only want to undo harmful side effects would be a GMNPC underground sorta guy that offers ways to restore some of your original DNA and siphon the animal stuff from you. _________________ "I reject your reality and substitute my own!" -- Adam Savage

Having people for Glim to utterly ignore could be fun. Hmmm.

As per prior posts, genetics and mutations is planned for Live and will be a Medic skill/ability. _________________ Counselor Faith Tempest

Actually, I thought she liked it and was thinking about it for medics. ^.^ I was saying it was just an idea....nothing spectacular. _________________ "I reject your reality and substitute my own!" -- Adam Savage

Technically, it's the Shadowrun Master's idea for my campaign. _________________ "I reject your reality and substitute my own!" -- Adam Savage

Technically, Faith posted about it a week or two ago, anyway. _________________ A bright-eyed Thekko Ku Kalla dressed in a dapper sailor suit takes to flight and careers through the air toward the Modan Kucho and slams into him!

My apologies if I came across as if I were shooting ideas down.
>note to self: Don't post when in a hurry to get out the door of your home.
It is a good idea, I just wanted to let everyone know it was already planned. Ideas are always welcome. You guys usually don't know (and even if you've been informed, I don't expect you to remember everything) all that is in creation, design, planning. Heck, I'd be hard pressed just to tell you more than one project any one of my co-GMs has on their plate...well, except Trevor...but he posted his recently.
So anyway, while I may not always agree with your opinions, and I may not always implement your ideas, they are very welcome. I want to know what you guys want. _________________ Counselor Faith Tempest

<3 Faith. I wasn't offended at all. It's really easy to read into things that are just words typed into a message board. I didn't know that perminant genetic recombination with animal DNA was in the works. _________________ "I reject your reality and substitute my own!" -- Adam Savage
