With the engagement system coming up will huntable NPCs be getting additional skills to compensate for lack of ranged attacks? I don't mean ALL of them but some would make more sense than others.

Modan Kuchos - it would make sense for them to hurl boulders or something, they are huge and live up in the mountains

Darga Vei - they do that flying debri attack, I think it should already be a ranged attack yet it can be parried

it would also be great to tell which creatures are the ones that are a direct threat to you.

right now if you see "a gamojab advances on you" and there are three gamojabs, then you have no way to know which is the threat.

I noticed that engagement has been added to more than just the fens now, can we get it to where while were advancing critters cant just walk away out of combat?
Was in guards and would constantly get to pilum or even melee right before attacking and they would just walk away, so I would have to follow and start all over again.

example:
You continue to advance on a royal guard and are now at missile range.
A royal guard strolls in.
A royal guard scans the area guardedly.
You continue to advance on a royal guard and are now at pilum range.
You continue to advance on a royal guard and are now at pole range.
You stop advancing, since you're about as close to a royal guard as you could hope to get.
A royal guard strolls east.
A royal guard is no longer around to advance on you. You feel safer, or something.
double guard head
You're not close enough to attack.

I believe Marduk is adding these aspects while increasing the areas that support the ES as creatures in those areas are modified for it. He and I have spoken about the walk off issue specifically (about 2 days ago) so I know it's something on his list.

Keeping posting comments on the ES though, so we can shake out any bugs or imbalances.

Well, I can hit guards un-aimed and un-engaged with my shotgun. Not sure if this is do to the ES, or the other changes.

A royal guard continues to advance on you and is now at missile range.
hide
You become one with the shadows and disappear from sight.
Roundtime: 2 sec.
You begin maneuvering to stalk a royal guard.
You move into place and ready yourself to follow a royal guard.
Running more on luck than skill, you slash a finely-honed gladius with an obsidian hilt inlaid with shadowy onyx at a royal guard. Somehow, you land a strong hit to her head as a royal guard fails to block with a vyeftium round shield.
[You are fairly well balanced, healthy, and well rested.]
Roundtime: 3 sec.
A royal guard continues to advance on you and is now at melee range.

Guard started advancing on me, got to missle, I hid, I come out using an attack (by the way ambush is able to be done at range again) and he suddenly is at melee with me.

Seems they can keep on advancing even though they can no longer see me

It takes longer to stalk while engaging and I think guards are both supporting and not supporting the ES. Which is why you can still ambush and why I'm able to hit them without aiming or engaging, but once they get at melee, I can't hit them. I could be wrong, though.

Another thing I've noticed specifically about guards (and this may affect other creatures too, I don't know because I haven't checked).

If they use a melee attack (like the guards use shield bash, etc.) AND a ranged attack (the guards casting spells), they never use the ranged attack before getting to melee. Meaning since the changes, I've yet to see a guard cast anything at me, and I've been hunting almost non-stop while logged in.

This is being fixed, but will take a significant amount of time.

Code:

You begin to aim a shot at a royal guard.
Roundtime: 1 sec.
A royal guard strolls west.

I think AIMing should trigger aggression.

Scavenged corpses, and the ES:

1. ES Critter vs. ES Critter:

Code:
>shoot warr
You emerge from your hiding place!
Hoping to make the best of a poor shot, you fire a sleek night black gun at a borkin warrior.  Somehow, you land a strong hit to his chest as a borkin warrior fails to dodge the attack.
A borkin warrior is completely dazed by the attack!
Hoping to make the best of a poor shot, you fire a sleek twilight blue gun at a borkin warrior.  Somehow, you land a serious hit to his left eye as a borkin warrior fails to dodge the attack.
[You are balanced, healthy, and well rested.]
Roundtime: 2 sec.
>hide
You quickly veil your presence.
Roundtime: 3 sec.
>
-+ Summoner Niaobi Damalis has departed from Haelrahv.  [1:29 a.m.]
>
A borkin warrior is no longer stunned.

At some point there, my undead royal guard should have started smacking the warrior around.

2. ES Critter vs. Non-ES Critter:

Code:
>aim beetle
In a display of raw power, a dinede beetle attempts to bite you.  Mercilessly, he lands a fair hit to your left eye as you fail to dodge the attack.
[You are balanced, in great shape, and well rested.]
An undead royal guard seems agitated at a dinede beetle.
With confidence, a dinede beetle attempts to bite you.  Returning with equal ferocity, you dodge the attack.
[You are balanced, in great shape, and well rested.]
An undead royal guard seems agitated at a dinede beetle.
You begin to aim a shot at a dinede beetle.
Roundtime: 1 sec.
>
You feel much better.
>
An undead royal guard nods politely to a passerby.
>
You feel your shot is ready.
Powerfully, a dinede beetle rakes a claw at you.  With finesse, he lands a good hit to your right eye as you fail to dodge the attack.
[You are balanced, in great shape, and well rested.]
>
Moving as gracefully as a charging argabu, a dinede beetle rakes a claw at you.  Without hesitation, you dodge the attack.
[You are balanced, in great shape, and well rested.]
>
Ferociously as a cornered eteoch, a dinede beetle attempts to bite you.  Somehow, you dodge the attack barely avoiding disaster.
[You are balanced, in great shape, and well rested.]
>
Striking hesitantly, a dinede beetle attempts to bite you.  Ready to meet the challenge, you dodge the attack.
[You are balanced, in great shape, and well rested.]
>
In a display of raw power, a dinede beetle rakes a claw at you.  Mercilessly, he lands a fair hit to your right foot as you fail to dodge the attack.
You are completely dazed by the attack!
[You are poorly balanced, in good shape, well rested, and stunned.]
>
Striking swiftly, a dinede beetle rakes a claw at you.  In short order, she lands a fair hit to your left leg as you fail to dodge the attack.
[You are poorly balanced, in good shape, well rested, and stunned.]
>
In a display of raw power, a dinede beetle rakes a claw at you.  Mercilessly, he lands a fair hit to your right eye as you fail to dodge the attack.
[You are poorly balanced, slightly injured, well rested, bleeding, and stunned.]
>
You shake off the stun.
In a display of raw power, a dinede beetle rakes a claw at you.  Mercilessly, she lands a good hit to your right foot as you fail to dodge the attack.
You crumple to the ground as your legs fail to support your weight.
[You are badly balanced, slightly injured, well rested, bleeding, and prone.]

3. ES Critter vs. ...Me?!?

Code:
>look

[Rotmeh Glut, South Tunnels]
Musty and dank, this narrow tunnel leads south from the main intersection. A very large beautiful spiderweb hangs from the ceiling and the west wall, a lacy and sparkling addition to the otherwise drab damp passage.

You also see the Main Intersection, a sapphire and an undead royal guard.
You notice an exit leading south.
>aim guard
You stop aiming.
You begin to aim a shot at an undead royal guard.
Roundtime: 1 sec.
You feel your shot is ready.
shoot
With an utter lack of precision, you fire a sleek night black gun at an undead royal guard.  Without hesitation, he blocks the attack using a vyeftium round shield.
Turning a bad shot into a disastrous one, you fire a sleek twilight blue gun at an undead royal guard.  As expected, he blocks the attack using a vyeftium round shield easily.
[You are poorly balanced, slightly injured, well rested, and bleeding.]
Roundtime: 2 sec.
>An undead royal guard begins to advance towards you.
>
An undead royal guard continues to advance on you and is now at missile range.

So...yeah. ES really messes with scavenged corpses, for some reason.

It seems like they get 'stuck' when they get stunned\knocked down. They aren't really advancing, but it says they are.

Is there some way to hang back at pilum range or something? I tried to do it this morning by advancing and then retreating, but I made it to melee with a guard like, instantly. I meant to say something about that, but I had to get to class. So, in conclusion... how do you hang back and was I supposed to get from missile to melee in around 1 second?
