The new skill system - converted to discussion of reallocations - converted to a flamefest. So let's all just drop this thread unless you have something to say regarding the new skill system. Thank you.

What about GM approved only Reallocates? Like we have 3 reallocates, and we have to find a GM to enter the command for us, so they can check out what we become afterwards.

Good idea, but people would scream favortism I would imagine. Heck, they already do.

To get back to the off topic (as this isnt a reallocate thread). I have a feeling when the new skill system comes out, reallocates are done. I don't think we have heard a single voice come in here and say after the new system they should still be here (remember this is a thread about the new system). So...if noone is against it, and the staff seems to agree, then really we should already expect the result.

On an on topic (the real one) conversation, Has Psion Nskill learning been looked at for the new system? I found I learned much more Nskill spamming rising missed then when I was over hunting casting piercing stare, lesser scav, and paralyze. I litterally can (and did, thought it iritated me more that it worked then anything) write a script to cast rising mist over and over, run it for an hour and gain more then I had in the previous weeks in Psionics.

Just an question.

I guess I'm due to weigh in here. Here's my stance on reallocations from A to Z.

Reallocations were put in to allow players to correct training mistakes, rename their characters for social reasons, and as a means to change professions if you realized you made a bad choice in the CM. They were not put in to allow people to change from A profession to B profession on a temporary basis to get a perk. That is in my opinion an abuse of the system.

My policy on that matter is to not punish those persons because we're getting into the 'judgment call' arena, and if no one has noticed by now, I tend to craft policies in HR that use as little of those calls as possible. I trust my staff's ability to make informed decisions but any system based on judgment calls is prone to some bad calls. However, I reserve the right to punish someone for how they use reallocations if I really deem it that blatantly obvious and necessary. I have not exercised that right to date.

Looking forward, here is what players should expect:

- No reallocations for any reason in the test game once the new skills/advancement is released.
- Likely a system in "Live" where one can choose to forfeit a large amount of experience to have the option to change career paths. When I say large, the first number I'd throw out there as an example is minimum 20 levels probably, and possibly much more.
- Possibly adding a mechanic to change name when sufficient methods to change appearance via Medics exists.

I think the issue of learning what a profession about and possibly changing gears as you learn more about HR is going to be toned down a lot when the adjustments to advancement are in, because those low levels will be significantly easier to achieve.

I think I'm going to shut off reallocations at some point before or when we announce the new skills stuff is about to launch. I do concur that allowing players to reallocate at the last minute has few beneficial results.

There's no benefit to not allowing it either.

Sure there is. Taking away additional information in such a way reduces the chances of someone exploiting the system if that is their intent.

I suppose if you don't mind screwing over the people who aren't exploiting.

By the way, I think people who reallocate should be given money and super cool ultra-rare items.

Was that really necessary? I expected better from you.

Sorry, but I find it totally appropriate to express my opinion.

Posting that you wish reallocations weren't going away and your factual reasons for disliking it IS expressing your opinon and is appropriate.

Posting that people who reallocate should get some form of prize for doing so is far from posting your opinion. It is acerbic sarcasm and crosses the line to the ludicrous.

Sarcasm, possibly. Ludicrous, hardly.

It's just as valid as the current majority opinion. I doubt I'm the only one who actually does something useful with reallocations.

Maybe Kit could give us a semi-relevant explanation why society is so much more inclined to punish than reward.
