I figure this applies to youse guyses since you're the applicable profession:
From NEWS 25

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
EXCAVATION!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Standing where the LACAD facility was once located, the Llanfair Archivist
Center is looking for eager treasure-hunters to help them locate and return
all manner of historic antiques and relics. More information may be found in
the center's lobby.
Update 12/27
The Archivist Center has expanded its facility to include a library, useful
for RESEARCHing items found in the field. This is timely, since a new type of
item, both practical and restorable by Artisans, is now able to be excavated
and marks the first use of the library.

That sounds sort of misleading, actually. Only the restoring is relavent to Artisans; the practicality is for anyone. _________________ Mickey Brunner

Oh, and one other thing...
DISCLAIMER: In keeping with Mickey's penchant for not revealing the ins and outs of everything he releases, it's important to bear in mind that playing around with some items (even the practical) may inadvertantly result in undesired, unrequested, or otherwise unnecessary results -- exercise caution before you commit to something. _________________ Mickey Brunner

question:
in time (aka: once it can be coded), is it possible to have all the items found become restorable with this new system (which i am traveling to now)?
aka: fixing up the weapons, repairing the cloths, dusting off the femur, so on? _________________ A bright-eyed Thekko Ku Kalla dressed in a dapper sailor suit takes to flight and careers through the air toward the Modan Kucho and slams into him!

okay, so it seems the ferroniere isn't what can be researched.
i've yet to find what can be researched!
one more trip to go and try... _________________ A bright-eyed Thekko Ku Kalla dressed in a dapper sailor suit takes to flight and careers through the air toward the Modan Kucho and slams into him!

Maybe it's an ultra rare and you can only find it like once every two months of excavating. |

i fully expect to not have the skills to restore this thing. But I hope I have enough research! _________________ A bright-eyed Thekko Ku Kalla dressed in a dapper sailor suit takes to flight and careers through the air toward the Modan Kucho and slams into him!

The object(s) in question don't occur in the same frequency as the broken chains (which are actually mixed in with the regular stuff).
You also don't need Research to research it, if that's what you mean.
And, most importantly, while the object(s) in question are undoubtedly cool (at least in my opinion), I don't want you to let your expectations get blown eight times out of proportion as suspense builds; they're just, you know... cool. If some don't show up soon (assuming they haven't already; I was away three days on a business trip), I'll improve the frequency.
As for restoring the stuff now, I can't honestly say it was something we ever considered bothering with, since I'd rather find neater things to add/implement/etc. Most of the junk find now really is just junk, albeit profitable junk. _________________ Mickey Brunner

yeah, they're definitely hard to find. Mellie and I have been digging like mad people, and as far as I know neither of us have found one.

heh, i actually find the idea of restoring things (in turn for a greater profit, or making them wearable, or taking the weapons/armor up to average quality, or maybe even having some randomly placed with logical bonuses... whatever), kinda cool. since it takes so long for me to dig (i think it takes an hour to finish an area), i'd want to have more to do with the items than just enter 'sell x' a few times. i'd like to screw with them and have some fun. _________________ A bright-eyed Thekko Ku Kalla dressed in a dapper sailor suit takes to flight and careers through the air toward the Modan Kucho and slams into him!

She's actually found five of them and is just seeing how long it'll take you to find out. Oh noes, I ruined the surprise.

Techs are triple trained in research and I have yet to figure out what it's for. We don't research anything. |

I've increased the odds slightly on finding the new curio; it's now only slightly off from the original relic frequency mechanic, which inadvertantly gave up five relics within an hour after the excavation system opened. Incidentally, the links are appearing a lot more often than Valla and I had originally anticipated. How's that for irony? _________________ Mickey Brunner
