Having been through a first aid training class before (yes, it was years ago) I can say that someone who has been trained in first aid can help immensely in a situation where someone is wounded, but they are still not a replacement for the professionals.

I say let non-medics have access to some of the simpler devices, but have to train harder in order to use them effectively. Medics, who are immersed in first aid and surgey as part of their career, would obviously learn how to use medical equipment faster than those that devote their lives to say...shooting a gun at something to blow it's head apart.

I, too, say Non-Medics should only be able to use the simpler, non-mechanical things. Just common sense. Would you trust your lawyer to perform a CAT scan on you? Would you trust your huntin' buddies to give you a blood transfusion? I would certainly hope not.

PS: Techies should be allowed to use some of the basic electronic things (Star Trek tri-corders, anyone?). Twisted Evil Twisted Evil You knew it was coming, so don't yell at me.

Muahahahaha. I'm sure they will. You've got medicine on one side, which techs don't know much about, intricate technology on the other, which medics don't know much about. But, the two meet in the middle in biotech, where both sides equally contribute to the research\use of some medical devices. Don't expect to see techs wrapping bandages all that good, but do expect them to have a part in making\using the more technological stuff that medics use. This includes biotech, hint hint.

On the same respect Medics who do devote some of their training to electronics will be able to better operate their equipment and keep from breaking it as regularly.

Personally, I'd say #4 as well....just because I don't have a clue about using an X-ray machine doesn't mean I can't TRY. Of course, I might irradiate you in the process and make the damage worse... Twisted Evil
