Do you prefer using numerical characters or alphabetical characters when using numbers in game? I'd also like to hear the opinions associated with each preference. _________________ It is better to be pissed off than pissed on. |

One. It's a text based game and when I sit down to play it, I don't think about the numerical systems that keep it working. I think of it like a novel I'm writing.
Novels use the alphabetical. |

Personally, I would prefer numericals. It's just more efficient and, dare I say it, easier than typing out the alphabetical. Not to mention you can essentially have an infinite amount of items in a container and be able to grab any single one of them (granted that you can count up to its location). You can always go for adjectives, sure, but even that gets a bit too complicated sometimes.

I said either. I prefer typing it out, but it's easier on my hand to use numbers. |

Generally I think one, but it depends. Imagine:
You have five million seven hundred eighty-three thousand two hundred thirty-three credits in your bank account.
Or:

Gramatically, you're supposed to write out the numbers zero to ten, and everything after that you're supposed to use digits. _________________ A bright-eyed Thekko Ku Kalla dressed in a dapper sailor suit takes to flight and careers through the air toward the Modan Kucho and slams into him!

Okay, so:
Appraisal : Seven (51%)
Lockpicking : 15 (eight percent)
Windsurfing : 9 (1%) _________________ "Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something." -- Plato

Percentages should always show up as numbers and if you're showing a series of numbers in succession, the rule is to keep them all as digits (in the event even one is over ten).

What about decimals? Negative numbers? Leap years? _________________ "Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something." -- Plato

Of course, all "styles" of writing are flawed because they're not usually how the majority of people actually write...which makes it a little something like trying to tell people that British english is the correct way for America, when the majority of people don't speak or write that way. _________________ If there is one thing in the world that I know, love conquers all, it trancends time and space, defies all odds, and can bring you back from the darkness, it is the guiding light that helps bring you in from the rough stormy seas of life, and it remains even after you have gone.

I had meant in the story-writing aspect of the game. In fact...I think I said using numericals for systems. Stuff like Trevor said would be one of the reasons to use numerals. When you're talking figures, you use numerals anyhow. Listing skills is an example of figures.
I don't have my character say anything about that sorta stuff. In fact, it's kinda OOC to talk about what numbers you have in skills.
When it comes to like...
get third ingot
I'd RATHER type get 3 ingot
Just because it's faster. However, in roleplay, whether I use SAY, ACT, SMILE or the like, I'd rather type out the number in letters. |

Yeah, I was replying to the poll question and not your post, so it's not like I intended to rebuff you or anything. And it turns out that I misinterpreted the poll question to begin with; I automatically thought of "GET 3/THREE POUCH" instead of "You have 3/THREE credits in the bank".
Oh, well. C'est la vie.

Ah, I wasn't being bitchy, I was simply clarrifying what I meant. It was mostly after reading Trevor's posts. I tend to delete the person's post when I comment, I just forgot this time.
Ooh, and suggestion:
It appears to be properly prepared for use in a potion or other mixture.
There appears to be thirty-five units worth of argurat pulp.
Can we get this turned numerical?
After all: You note the composition of the contents of the glass flask as 50 doses of copper dust, 50 doses of sirolei infusion, and 50 doses of argurat pulp.
It's just easier to see. |

I said either. But that's mostly because I type rather fast and spelling it out doesn't bother me a whole lot. ^_^ _________________ Help! Help! I'm being oppressed! |
