If you, as a potential luthier, were to partake of the pending instrument crafting system, would you prefer building each instrument entirely from scratch (creating each component, longer production time, greater hands on activity, more attention to detail and final quality), have your pieces premade and self-assembled (less construction time, less orientation on detail and quality), or simply have a "kit" that you build through with a repeated command (least effort and time, no attention to detail or quality)? Or a supposed mix, pretending that any combination is possible?

I personally would like the one that takes longer time just because I think that it puts more of yourself into the instrument then some premade kit. It gives you more of a sense of pride in your work then simply popping them out like hotcakes. That sort of devalues the system in my eyes.

Would it be possible to have both options A and B co-existing within the same universe?

Option A -- where everything is built by the character -- would have the most detail and quality and of course have higher value (comparitively). It would be for those musicians that want the best... or just want to keep up with the neighbors.

Option B -- for the IKEA enthusiasts -- would allow for basic control over their instrument's appearance and quality. It'd be good for those musicians just getting into the groove and finding their niche, while still not blowing their bank account to oblivion.

Option C = no.

Mneh?

Even though I'm not a performer, I say no way to C. Kits totally ruin things. I'd prefer A. If Mercs get a system to build weapons, I'd want it to be like A. Simple sentences kick ass.

My complex and most likely runon sentences > your simple sentences.

Option 1) This one appeals to me the most, even though I will likely never be crafting instruments. I do hope that a high level of detail and intricacy will be applied if and when an enchanting system comes out. I envision this one taking the least amount of money if Performers can forage/mine/etc for their initial materials, but taking a very long time to finish.

Option 2) I suppose that this one is okay as well, but option one is much better in my opinion as it will showcase the truly dedicated instead of people that like to do it as a hobby for some quick money by making mediocre items.

Option 3) I don't like this one at all.

i agree with what's already been said, i'd rather see option A than any of the others, that way you make an instrument that's truly yer own. i think it'd be nice to have some premade parts available fer those that didn't want ta put as much effort in, but it's not totally necessary. oh and i also agree that kits are bad, mkay.

Assuming some absurdly exciting occasion doesn't fall in my lap over the weekend, I'm going to dig into instrument crafting a little more. And probably poke at the Academy.
