I know Mickey mentioned that spell research wouldn't be needed in Live to learn spellsongs because it's basically useless other then to learn the spellsong. But I was wondering if we could make it so if (probably when, looking at the poll results so far) the new proposition passes we could not have to retrain this skill. I know personally there are a lot of things I'd rather be training then spell research; things that are much more useful, but I have to keep the points in case a new spellsong turns up that I want to learn. So there they sit...placid and unused.

I'm just hoping that maybe you can put the program into place a little sooner then scheduled. *begs, pleeds, and becomes a pitiful pool of mush at Mickey's feet*

You mean that with 30 spell research I can know a spellsong or two?

With around 80 you can know all the spellsongs. Even less for non-performers. But you have to have skill in the instrument the spellsong pertains to too.

I'm so confused how spellsongs work.

I know I'm no performer, but can someone explain to me how it works?

IE:
For normal spells, intel and spell casting determines the effectiveness, and spell research influences how many I can learn.

One of the redeeming values of this in the standard system was the Performer perk of being able to triple-train spellcasting, for the sake of supplementing spellsongs with good old-fashioned magic. You'll have a lot more skill points to play with if the proposal passes, but the fact remains that you've got a strong (and valid) point, and I'll look into it.

That's actually an incorrect number (too low), although I know you have know way of knowing that.

I know you and I already discussed this is more detail, and I'm also aware that I'm preaching to the choir, but after I've maxed out on Singing, Dancing, String, Wind, Rhythm, Evasion, Acrobatics, Athletics, and Spell Research, it leaves just enough for me to put all I can into Fishing (which is what I curently use for getting money and exp) and a little into Persuasion.

I have no points whatsoever to put into any combat skills of any 1 kind, let alone multiple ones. This has, of course, given me a nice RP option of playing a non-combat character, but it has it's disadvantages. Yes, I expect to be easily killed by Stilldawn. Not many can say otherwise. But it's a little embarassing when I can't do anything when a level 4 Trooper can Blood Siphon me to death. Sure, I can do a couple spellsongs to stop them from casting a spell...but only as long as my focus can hold up. And then what? Run? I'd at least like to be able to defend myself in a combat fashion, because that's all some will listen to.

Okay, to learn spellsongs you need to train: spell research and the instrument that spellsong pertains to.

Ex. The easiest song for a non-Performer to learn is the Song of Protection which increases resistance to elements. To PERFORM this song, you need a wind instrument, which makes this a wind spellsong. To be able to learn this you need to train in spell research and wind instruments until you have a sufficient amount of points in each to allow you to learn it.

Optional: Regular old research helps too, but is definately not needed. I, myself, have never used it and I've done fine.

Hope that helps!

From the vantage point of a PC (and equally as guru), I'm excited about the prospect of the proposed experience system almost solely because, for the first time, Performers will have skill points left! over!

I'm excited too. I don't have any points "left over" either.

For the record: I have no problem with dropping the Spell Research req. At the time of its inception, it just wasn't evident how much of a strain this would put on Performers.

*drools* You have no idea how good that sounds...well actually you do, but... *drools some more*

As for the Blood Siphon thing, it's Dance of Freedom, right? I did cast that but for some reason he could still hit me with it. *grumbles*
