since humans tend to be the best at leaching off of everything, why not something that boosts some of the skills found under nskill knowledge.
in particular, i was thinking research, occult lore, and spell research. maybe teaching? or just research and teaching. whatever. _________________ A bright-eyed Thekko Ku Kalla dressed in a dapper sailor suit takes to flight and careers through the air toward the Modan Kucho and slams into him!

I like the teaching + research idea.

The central portion of Llanfair is indeed intended to be, for lack of a better word, the Human Quarter. _________________ "Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something." -- Plato

To be honest, I only briefly entertained the idea of a human racial spellsong because, deliberately humor-oriented as William's post was, the only thing that entered my mind was something that would involve A: Imposing the Performer's lifestyle on other people, B: Meddling in the everyday affairs of other people, or C: Wiping those other people out. I can't really think of anything else humans are famous for. |
D: Technology, Mickey.
And I've written some things in the human folder that I think are important. Humans (a select portion, probably the most intelligent) have been on Haelrahv for 600 Earth years. Given the fact that a culture and a group of people change every three generations, it's safe to say that the humans of Haelrahv are VERY different from the humans of Earth. Esspecially since humans have been transplanted to a completely new world. 'Human nature' as we call it is not the same everywhere and most likely those that crashed here were of the more tolerant variety... Therefore, their ancestors are as well.
Anyhow, possitive things humans are earth are known for:
1. ingenuity
2. adaptability
3. something else that has been developed over 600 years. _________________ "I reject your reality and substitute my own!" -- Adam Savage

i'm going to point out a small reminder that it would be pretty silly for a performer spellsong to help with electronics. _________________ A bright-eyed Thekko Ku Kalla dressed in a dapper sailor suit takes to flight and careers through the air toward the Modan Kucho and slams into him!

Unless to use some of the cooler gadgets you have to have knowledge of how to work electronics. Think techno or synth or any other jam you put together using computer programs and digital sounds. _________________ "I reject your reality and substitute my own!" -- Adam Savage

Empowering Sonata
Strings / Self
Increase capacity for carrying burden. |
Is there any chance of getting this spellsong modified to affect the performer's goup as well? The full benefit could be applied to the performer, but a smaller (say, half?) of the benefit could be applied to their group.
Or would that make it way too uber? I've yet to actually study it myself, so I don't know how strong it is. But I was just thinking about it, so tadah, a post.

To be frank, the Empowering Sonata really can't match Null Gravity in terms of load-lightening. The benefit of the former is that it lasts significantly longer and provides a boost to maximum stamina; also reasons that it only affects the Performer. _________________ Mickey Brunner

Ah, I wasn't aware of any stamina bonus. Good deal, then.

Spellsong Suggestion:
Mountaineer's Yodel (singing): increases climbing skill.
I would also like to see it increase the Riding skill, too, since mountaineers are all about riding goats, but that's probably asking too much.

I could consider it. My innovation with the new experience rollout is still to try and make the profession a viably good choice in and of itself (while maintaining that it's a support type), without rendering it down to just a skill-bonus-monkey class. Another significant change I've more or less made up my mind on lately is turning the Lucky Man's Jig into a personal-effect spellsong, rather than a group. _________________ Mickey Brunner

Well, I'm fine with all of the skill-bonus spellsongs being made personal-only.
To be honest, that suggestion was made while I was constantly failing the climb to get to Mt. Tzon. So it's all good if you don't put it in.

I don't mind several of them being open to everyone, just for their utilitarian usefulness. Being in the Know on who gets what result, I can tell you that most non-Performers are actually doing more detriment to their character than good because they skip bothering with training charisma and only invest as many skill points as they need to meet the requirement and stop at that point; that's a lot of skill points down the tank for a sub-par bonus return, in the long run.
One idea I've been fiddling with in passing fancy is either phasing out some of the lesser/infrequently/never-used spellsongs to replace with more useful stuff, or, even better, fancy up existing ones to have more appealing affects of a related variety... or possibly even having the kind of effect differ based on whether it's a Performer using the song or not. For instance, x spellsong provides a bonus in its normal use, but also provides y effect for a Performer.

You're going to need a lot more than a plain old spellsong climbing bonus. <grin> _________________ Mickey Brunner

That's a pretty rad idea. Bonus points if you can get it through without too much hair-pulling.
