Woo hoo! Even better than the magic! It looks like we will be filling the void that having no Clerical profession leaves to an extent. That's awesome. And so is that Necromantic ability. ::drool:: _________________ Help! Help! I'm being oppressed! |

Guardians also fill the cleric slot to some extent, most notably the spiritual leader part(performs weddings, funerals, etc) and specization in combating "evil" type creatures. _________________ ~Hunter~ |

It's not fair! I want so many of them right off the bat.. Unlock, Disarm Traps, Telekinetic Leap, Alluring Aura (assuming that Techies, as well as anyone else, would kinda want Charisma for jobs and their payoffs and such), Nightvision (because I assume that, at night, you have more chances of messing up on things.. and it'd be neat if you could temporarily blind yourself if you cast it during the day ).. god.
So many choices! You people are EVIL. _________________

Heh. Everyone will want charisma, as well as all other stats, yep.
BTW, as a techie, psionics and magic will be considerably less potent for you, if you use implants and certain technologies, so you may have to carefully balance your tech and arcane arts. _________________ "Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something." -- Plato

Also... I should mention that the descriptions of these spells and powers are by no means exhaustive. There are many uses not mentioned at all. A good example is the levitation spell, which allows one to not leave tracks. Additionally, if you are very injured, you may be forced to crawl instead of walk and incur a movement RT. This RT is significantly reduced if you are levitating. Not-so-obvious uses for these abilities will abound wherever we can think of them. _________________ "Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something." -- Plato

I can understand that and all, but what I dun understand as much is the whole thing where you use magic, and suddenly your implants just stop working very well. It just doesn't make sense to me, and thats besides the fact that essense should take care of that anyway. _________________ Dragoonseal |

Well, let's be frank. This is a gameplay thing, more so than a realism one. There's a seesaw effect where magic/psi reduces tech effectiveness and vice versa. However, given that magic and psionics are based on this strange, arcane force that no one fully understands and that doesn't follow standard laws of nature, there are really endless explanations and possibilities for justifying the gameplay decision. A couple of possibilities..
- Magic/Psi use creates a natural dampening field that disturbs electrical devices, much alike EMP or some such.
- Magic/Psi affect and alter the body itself, causing direct body-enhancing technologies such as implants to be unable to apply their benefits uniformly. Indirect body enhancements like external armor would not be affected by this situation.
But the effects may not be clear as explained previously. It's not like you can lower the effectiveness of both at once and not be able to do anything for a while. It's more like this example:
Current: Tech 100% effective, Magic/Psi 100% effective.
Cast spell
Current: Tech 95% effective, Magic/Psi 100% effective.
Use psi power
Current: Tech 90% effective, Magic/Psi 100% effective.
Use tech implant
Current: Tech 95% effective, Magic/Psi 95% effective.
Use tech implant
Current: Tech 100% effective, Magic/Psi 90% effective.
Not real numbers, just a basic example of the see-saw effect. It's possible to have a situation like:
Current: Tech 0% effective, Magic/Psi 100% effective.
Use tech: Failure
Current: Tech 5% effective, Magic/Psi 95% effective.
Use tech:
Current: Tech 10% effective, Magic/Psi 90% effective.
... Etc, where you are earning back your ability to use tech until it is back to 100%. Of course, not all technology is affected by magic/psi. There are plenty of weapons and devices that are not at all affected. _________________ "Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something." -- Plato

The thing with implants though is that you don't 'use' them, they're just always working. And if you're pretty cybered up, and have lots of implants (and not too much essence left), your magic is going to be pretty sucky. And if you cast a spell on yourself all its going to do is reduce the effectiveness of all your implants (and other tech), thereby screwing yourself over.
In other words, the magic is going to hurt you more then it helps. And even if you don't have as many implants, its still not going to help any, because though the spell might help you some, its going to take a bite out of all the implants' effectiveness.
Thats why I say essesnce should just take care of it pretty fine by itself. If you don't have much essesnce, magic isn't going to do hardly a dang thing anyway, no need for it to also make all the implants take a hit. _________________ Dragoonseal |

The actual mechanics of it haven't been worked out yet, .... it's very possible that essence will take of it as you've suggested. (marks down one vote for that) <g> _________________ "Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something." -- Plato

Ya, just figured I'd get my vote out for it while I can, and explain why I felt that way. I hate not backing up an argument, or it just sounds like I'm complaining. <g> _________________ Dragoonseal |

::Absently pokes at Trevor:: I thought you said that, as an Alteri, usage of Psionics won't effect Tech as much as someone else. I might be wrong, but hey.. we all make mistakes.

Na, I said their natural telepathy ability can be used without affecting tech stuff and tech doesn't affect it. <g> Other psionics are a different case. _________________ "Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something." -- Plato

Oh, heh, at first I thought that said "...their natural psionic ability can be...", and I did this
Thats nice about the telepathy though. _________________ Dragoonseal |
