Since there seems to be overwhelming interest...
I thought I'd give out a little info on what I'm thinking for the Guardians, keep in mind though, none of this is officially approved yet, so it's all subject to change.
Think Shou-Lin monks, that's about the closest thing on Earth to describe them, though they were on Hael long before the humans arrived. Through rigorous physical training, study, meditation, and prayer, they learn to harness inner abilities.
Some sample abilities:
-Unarmed combat techniques few others are likely to know
-Use of Sigils, wards with mystical power to do various things like doing damage, making an area safe from violence, etc.
-Meditating to control the essence in their bodies to do things like toughen the body, increase speed, and ignoring wound penalties
Hope it sounds as interesting to some of you as it does to me _________________ ~Hunter~ |

Guardians sound so very close to what the Rangers were on Babylon 5.

Any more examples of Sigils? Sound quite good. And what applications will there be? Specific people or objects, maybe area effect ones? |

Sure, a few more examples are prevent psionic or magic use in an area, damage prevention, blocking the passage of "evil" creatures(spirits, undead, etc. probably need a name other then evil since not all spirits would be evil). There will be Sigils held in the hand for attacks, put on the ground for area effects, or even worn or sewn directly only clothing. It's still in a pretty early stage, and going into too much detail on how it will work is impossible since I don't know for sure yet , though skills will definitely effect the power of the Sigils you can make. Right now, we're thinking Sigils will be usable by anyone(like magic and psionics), though Guardians will get a bonus. If you or anyone else has ideas, I'm always happy to hear them. The Sigil list can never be too long. _________________ ~Hunter~ |

What about tattoos. Someone could get a sigil tattooed on their body and would just focus on the tattoo in meditation to activate the sigil.

Although Guardians avoid confrontations when at all possible, they will, as protectors of Haelrahv, have to engage in combat at some point.
Based on the professional descriptions released thus far, it seems that Guardians could become outgunned fairly quickly. Agents, troopers, and mercenaries can all utilize weapons and armor; technicians can build an army of droids; mages can cast spells; and psionics have telepathic and telekinetic offensive capabilities.
Besides sigils, will Guardians have access to any special abilities that can counter these threats?
Thanks in advance. |

Guardians will be the premier experts in unarmed combat, they have "meditations" that allow them to use their essence for various effects, from speeding up or toughening the body, charging their limbs with energy to do more damage, to self healing. Also, like previously mentioned are the sigils. Then there's magic and prionics. All professions have access to the majority of the powers in there, and Guardians, while the power of their magic/psi will be the same as the rest of the non-specialists, they can triple train the skills that give access to new spells/powers, so they'll have more choices available to them then most others. Honestly I don't see them being outgunned, I was more worried that they might end up having too many powers. _________________ ~Hunter~ |

Too many powers? What's that, there's no such thing. That's like havin too much fun, not possible. Ya know, I'm gonna be a merc but, my merc is more then likely gonna have a brother (betcha can't guess what profession his brother wil be in). If not a brother, then some wierd alter ego soul sharing line will have to be made up because I have a hard time picturing a Darjuan Gaurdian. They just don't seem like that kind of folk. Now a human with slightly tannish yellowish skin and slanted eyes, that fits the pic a lil better. Oh, and a shaved head except for a ponytail growing from directly top, dead center of his head.

Ya, Darju aren't the most likely of Guardians, though it could happen...the most common Guardians ("historically" speaking, since what players do could totally change it) would be the three original races of Hael, with Jaddan being foremost among them. _________________ ~Hunter~ |

Gonna do some serious looking into it. I've totally got "The Matrix" images going through my head right now. How cool would it be to have a sigil that would stop bullets in mid air leaving them suspended there . Or being able to dodge bullets to contorsienast (sp?) extremes. I'm liking guardians alot too. Total passifist(?) that can seriously dent your head if you prove to be hard headed enough to need it dented.
A question, are guardians protectors of everyone? I mean, from RP stand point, we see someone getting the tar whooped out of em. Do we automatically intervene and attempt to difuse the the situation? Or are we more like police, arrest em both and attempt to make since of the madness? (was the whooper acting in self defense or was he merely taking advantage of the whoopie<heh , heh, whoopie, heh, heh>) (Sorry bout that, reverted back to my Beavis and Butthead days there for a sec ) Then handle it from there, i.e. make the whooper leave the area and assist the................................................................... injured (HAH! gotcha, thought I was gonna say whoopie again didn't ya. DOH!!! ) (uhhhhhhhh, huh, he said whoopie, what a dumbass) in getting medical attention. (make it stop, make it stop, AAAHHHHHH).
Ok, so I had some caffiene today. I can be a lil amusing at times, if you can overlook the psychoticness). _________________ Nojym |

Definatly not police, Mercs and Troopers are closer to that than Guardians. How a situation was dealth with would probably be up to the particular Guardian in question...some might just stop a fight and tell both people to go their separate ways, some might stop it and try to mediate, some might help one or the other, and some might say "Hmm, that guy's a jerk and deserves a beating, for enlightenments sake of course...looks like he picked a fight with the wrong guy" and watch him get the tar beat out of him...Then again someone like a steriotypical Darju might just give lipservice to the religious aspects and go spar people unarmed for fun. _________________ ~Hunter~ |

I'll RP close to the guidlines of any profession I take on regardless of what race I use. How close will be determined by the race though. That is if I didn't decide to go the total Darth Vader route, I'll crush your throat from ten feet away with my sigil enhanced hand squeeze then pull out my ECPB and slice your legs off while you gasp for air. (ECPB: Electro Contained Pulse Blade. Light Sabre ::shrug:
Hmm, gonna look into which profession would really fit into this. _________________ Nojym |
