Glim. Someone gently shook his shoulder.
"Leave me alone.", he grogily responded.
"Glim. It is time to wake up." Again the insistant shaking.

His eyes snapped open, only to be greeted with the dingey ceiling of his room in the motel. His sleep-blurred vision scanned the bare room, which was barely large enough to contain the bed he slept on.

He laid there in a daze, the simple sheeting twisted about his body like a deranged straightjacket. As he thought to drift back to sleep, a ferocious shaking snapped him back to wakefulness. He sighed inwardly.

He had an appointment to keep, he knew. He merely wished it were later in the day.

As he entered the tiny bathroom, he drew shut the curtain that served as its door. As he trudged past the mirror, towards the pathetic excuse of a shower, he could not help but catch his reflection out of the corner of his eye. His complexion, normally a fair tan, had paled to a grayish white not long after he had left home. His eyes - seemingly gouged out due to the poor lighting in the bathroom - were a silver-flecked black. He idly wondered what was happening to him.

He came to terms, if not acceptance, with his strangely shifting eyes quite some time ago. They seemed to do no harm to him, so he largely dismissed the oddity.

As he opened the shower door, a dreadful stench assailed his delicate nose. He quickly slammed it shut, nearly breaking the mock-glass with the force of it. So much for the luxury shower, he thought.

He turned back to the sink before the mirror. As he gingerly turned the knob for hot water, a vile-looking brown water spluttered out of the faucet, before turning clear. He groaned.

No matter how he tampered with the sink, the water remained intolerably hot. He cursed softly as he shut off the hot water. Cold water is supposed to be good at waking you up, he thought.

As he splashed the frigid water on his face, he again caught his eyes in the mirror. Hot pink. Someone or something was feeling rather cruel, this morning, it seemed.

He quickly towel-dried his long, glossy black hair with a disturbingly yellow towel. What he would not give for some decent technology in this dump.

As he exited his lowly room, he locked the keys to it inside, in a fit of spite. He would rather be arrested than spend any more time in that wretched hovel.

Stopping briefly at the vending machine located just outside, he selected the least rancid food and drink available. As the last of his available credit trickled away, he wondered what else could go wrong.

The quaint street leading to the Guardian sanctuary was lined on either side with immense trees. Approaching the ancient building called Sanctuary, he noted the people of various races standing on the lawn, reciting their morning prayers. Glim found it amusing how religious everyone became, when disaster struck.

Striding up to the massive oak doors, he glanced furtively to either side of the cobblestone walk, wondering who the Guardians had set to watch him. No one seemed apparent, but he knew the Guardians had a contract with certain Agent organizations in town.

Before he could even raise the ornate brass knocker, the doors glided open with a faint crackling sound and his twilight blue robes fluttered briefly in the smoke-tinged breeze.

----------------
Just a further note. This is a little of Glim's history. More will be coming. This is not a 'round-table' story, really. If no one else has started one, I'll think something up. ::grins::

I've been waiting and hoping, for a very long time now, that someone would start in-character storylines on the message boards. You're top of my Cool Book.
And bravo, by the way.

I already asked Glim if I could butt into the story, but this is his.
So what say after we hear his tale, we do a continuous story
line with everyone able to jump in when they want. Kind of like a
round robin.

Once in a galaxy far far away......... (fade to the ass end of a spaceship)

I'm all up for that, as long as I don't have to start it.
