I'm pretty sure someone brought this up in another thread but I thought this a good idea to bring back to the spotlight (especially since everyone's reminiscing about their High School band days). Since dancing is an intricate artform, and there are probably a lot of people -- including some Performers -- that don't exactly know the terminology, would it be possible to have system-y scripts to help us?

Maybe a book that would diagram the steps to take and when (similar to alchemy tomes and spellsong scrolls), what the right course of action would be during certain conditions, et al. Or an NPC class you could go to to take lessons for a reduced time but a higher price. Both choices would take varying amounts of time depending on the dance, Dancing skill and perhaps level (maybe even Race.. an Alteri would have a hard time with a Jaddan ceremonial dance, probably, and vice versa). Maybe even allow Performers to cut out the middle step and teach it directly to a group of students for a reduced amount of time, though they would be required to actually perform the dances and such infront of the group a time or two.

If this were to happen, I would expect Performers to get special profession-only dances.. as well as reduced skill and time required to learn certain dances (duhr). In any case, this could help the general populace learn different styles of dancing and hopefully create some of their own sometime down the road.

whats wrong with reminising? its all i got left of the states right now ::sniffles:: mutters damn military and sending people overseas.

I think dancing books like that would be a good idea, also practicing to get better. Like mashin toes and stuff when you first start out.

I think dancing holograms/npcs would be better, every try to learn a dance step from a book?

Check out that short clip(~20seconds), I'd def like to see breakdancing. :] Also I think some dance moves should depend on strength/stamina if they aren't already planned that way.

Here's the main link to the site I got that video from for any of you interested in researching this type of dance for you characters.

Strength/Stamina? Try acrobatics for break dancing. I'm in pain just watching half those things. And as far as learning from a book or diagram, it can be effective.. I did learn to waltz from one when I was seven. Of course, I've totally forgotten how due to years of not performing it, but I digress.

Maybe we could have like those black foot shaped things that you place on the ground to show your feet where to go? You know what I'm talking about...

And if anything, you'd need coordination, vitality, agility and dancing first and foremost, followed by strength and athletics, and lastly acrobatics (for those flips and things).

That is, of course, just my humble opinion on the idea.
