I enjoyed Episode III thoroughly. I think the general sales of the movie would indicate a few other people did too. _________________ "Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something." -- Plato

This is going to peg me as a fanboy, but I'm more interested in the Star Wars era that predates the movie, when the Jedi first found the colony of Sith, went to war, etc. Everything that led up to Darth Bane instituting the law of only two Sith existing at a time. _________________ Mickey Brunner

Yeah, it's a shame that there's so much more material for further movies than there is ability or willingness to make those movies. _________________ "Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something." -- Plato

Hmm. RePEAT sales might indicate enjoyment, but general sales only indicate....interest. I'm VERY glad that Lucas is moving away from the movie realm and into the realm of television. I think he'll have much better luck (barring anymore specials starring Bea Arthur and a gaggle of Ewoks) in that medium. And like Mickey, I'm interested in some of the mythology of the series as well. I've often been tempted to pick up some of the books and read them, but they're difficult to figure out just WHERE to start. And I have a whole library in my house mostly filled with unread books. _________________ If there is one thing in the world that I know, love conquers all, it trancends time and space, defies all odds, and can bring you back from the darkness, it is the guiding light that helps bring you in from the rough stormy seas of life, and it remains even after you have gone.

It set several records during a period where all the buzz is how movies as a whole are in a financial slump with low point viewerships. Now, I know a lot of people go to a movie just to check it out, but let's face it, a lot of people go based on reviews from their own friends and social group. There's no measure of repeat sales out there that I know of, but the fact that Ep III is on track to surpass Ep I and II notably says a lot.
Especially Ep I which only had the previous franchise films to ride on before it opened. A lot of people were happy with Ep IV-VI and so you'd think if it's all about hype that Ep I would have done amazingly, and by contrast if you follow the hype line, you'd assume that Ep III would sell poorly based on hype because Ep I and II were met with pretty bland reviews (how often have you heard someone say how much better the older films were than I and II?). Despite that hype, or lack thereof, Ep III completely rocked the box office and will likely outsell Ep I and II by a healthy margin.
It's impossible to tell how much is hype, and how much is good film but based on the comparative success and on the fact major reviewers and media figures are saying Ep III is in their view better than <insert choice of original trilogy movie here> says a pretty good bit in my opinion. If I heard anyone say Ep I or II was better than IV, V or VI I sure don't remember it. I've heard many people, by contrast, say III was better than a new hope, or better than jedi, or <gasp> better than empire. _________________ "Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something." -- Plato

...and I forgot to add, Ep III is enjoying said success despite an PG13 rating, whereas every other film had a PG rating. If that seems to be a minor point, consider the recent news articles about parent groups raising hell because Burger King is putting Ep III promo materials and toys on kid's meals. _________________ "Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something." -- Plato

Massive Sith armies detonating Force artifacts and obliterating thousands on both sides and the sole-surviving Sith that wears armor made out of parasitic barnacles? I would pay to see that. _________________ Mickey Brunner

I forget what they are, offhand. I just know they're some form of hard-shelled parasite that attach themselves to Darth Bane and are notably resistant to the energy produced of lightsabers. _________________ Mickey Brunner

If Dahl had wanted the original movie to be closer to the book, it would've been. He wrote the screenplay for it. |

Had Dahl actually written the screenplay for the original movie, he might have made it like he wanted it. However, he didn't. At least according to IMDB.

I wonder why the kid that played Charlie Bucket never had another on-screen roll. Like, ever. Not even some odd cameo in the new one.

Man, I totally thought you were alluding to some kind of animal fetish. But being a vet is even better.
