He was joking, as per the tiny print. And no, I didn't have to magnify or C&P it and change the size. I'm just a god like that.

Yeah, right. Anybody using 640 x 480 screen res would be able to see it .

Thinking along the lines of the Eolai tradition/behaviour/history and their self-absorption with social standing among their own kind, I believe that the markings should show a form of ranking (as previously suggested), otherwise there will be no way to distinguish a lower class Eolai from the ruling class (other races, as we already know don't count as they are beneath us Eolai anyway ) _________________ ~My Reality Check Bounced~

I had suggested to Kal, having the markings be naturally occuring but a symbol of age/rank. For instance an Eolai child is born with little or no markings, but develops them or they grow as they age where an old Eolai male could have markings completely covering their nose/cheeks and a female could have the entire forehead/temple covered. _________________ "I'm not quiet...I'm plotting" |

I have no official stance on this whole marking problem, really. I like the idea of them being a marks of age/wisdom largely because an Eolai remains ageless in appearance essentially until they die. Whether that's natural or not is really a moot point.
The Eolai culture is changing slightly to make them much less egocentric, however, so being marks of social standing is a less viable option. It's definitely doable, though, and may be set into place as more of the Eolai culture is written out.

Do it, do it, do it. Make it an official stance.
As for being egocentric. No we are not! It's just that the rest of you are beneath our contempt. _________________ ~My Reality Check Bounced~

So basically, the opposite of a fawn losing its spots. Eolai would gain them (metaphorically speaking) - actually, aren't there such a thing as age spots? I mean look at your grandparents, the one with all those dark freckles, then they tell you they didn't have them till they got old. Rambling....need coffee....food for thought anyhow.
And when talking with another affiliated with RPGN...specifically him turning me onto HR...we discussed Eolai, and I said they were elfin - which he ran right back to BTG and told on me. BTG told stoolpidgeon they was changing a bit - so um, whatcha change again? |

<laugh> Well we aren't changing to remove the elf-like perception. We're changing to solidify the history a bit. The changes are primarily historical, although there are personality changes and other elements.
BTW, I'd like to point out that Eolai do not have pointy ears! Yes, they were elf inspired, but not intended to be literal elves, nor elves with a name change. _________________ "Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something." -- Plato

I don't see why you can't have the social thing and age thing combined when it comes to the facial markings. They could be born with little or no markings, and gain more as they grow to signify age. Perhaps the pattern and complexity of the markings could signify social status, which could be granted magically seeing as social status can change. Perhaps they could be born with the pattern (and therefore social status) of their parents?
Or is all this just a tadge too complex and tongue twisting for descriptive purposes?

I think you should create a name in the native tongue which describes the 'markings'. One simple word perhaps that encompasses many meanings of what the marks are.
English words:
Dabbles
marbling
mottling
stippling
splashes
blotches
dots
peppered
daubs
examples:
You are Desiree Darkensky, an Eolai Bureaucrat.
You have sky blue eyes, dark marbling on the forehead and ivory skin
You have waist-length flowing blonde hair.
You have a flawless face
You are Desiree Darkensky, an Eolai Bureaucrat.
You have sky blue eyes and a lightly tanned complexion with light brown mottling on your temples
You have waist-length flowing blonde hair.
You have a flawless face.
You are Desiree Darkensky, an Eolai Bureaucrat.
You have sky blue eyes and a porcelain white complexion with gold stippling on your forehead
You have waist-length flowing blonde hair.
You have a flawless face.
You are Desiree Darkensky, an Eolai Bureaucrat.
You have sky blue eyes and a pearl white complexion with splashes of blue coloring on your neck
You have waist-length flowing blonde hair.
You have a flawless face. _________________ ~ The longer the night lasts, the more our dreams will be. ~ |

The marbling for Kal's beautiful Eloai should be a "coming of age thing" - for me I think it should be artificial like a tattoo, and maybe added to with age - older Eloai may have their entire face covered. |
