Yeah, I hate to be a dick (especially to someone who was paralyzed and is now dead), but I wasn't a big fan. I mean, he contributed money and encouraged research and that's great... but... I mean... he's not the only paralyzed person. He's just the only one that was Superman before it happened.

I'd rather find hope in someone that was paralyzed yet continues to compose music or something; a famous guy that got paralyzed and then donated money so he could get better just doesn't do it for me.

its not a sad occasion considering it was only 2 years ago that he pleaded for the right to die . just a shame that he chose to go at a young age

I don't think condemning someone because they didn't get active in an issue before it affected them really serves any purpose. I am sure that if every one of us had a ton of money, we wouldn't get involved in every possible charity and humanitarian effort possible.

What was Reeve involved in before his accident? I don't know. Maybe nothing. Maybe a few things. Maybe lots of things. I really just don't know. I am willing to bet no one who posted knows either. But, even if you do, I don't think these posts help. It's being blown out of proportion just as much as the negative posters claim it has been by the 'other side'. No one has suggested the man for sainthood.

It was stated he was an inspiration. Well, he was. He was an inspiration for paralyzed persons or people with such persons dear to them. If Reeve could find a way, maybe they could. He was an inspiration for people who want to believe the human body can achieve things above and beyond our expectations. He was an inspiration for proponents of stem cell research. His celebrity status helped further the dreams and goals of all of those groups.

Now, does this make the man a hero? Well, it depends on who you ask. And anyone who wants to think he was just some washed up actor with some money and way too much spotlight is free to do so, but the man did some good for the world for someone besides himself. He affected more lives in a positive way than many people ever do. You can't really dispute that, even if you still think he wasn't "all that".

Every time someone famous dies, there's always someone ready to point the finger and say, "hey he wasn't that great anyway, get over it." Why on earth even say that? Does it make you feel better? Does it help anyone? Does it move mountains and create miracles? Or does it just piss people off, hurt people's feelings and create an atmosphere of bitterness?

I've made off the cuff comments when I felt someone blew commentary about a deceased celebrity out of proportion. For example, when Rick James died, some people called him a musical genius or talked as if he changed the very face of music. I couldn't think of more than one song he did, so I kind of disagreed. But I don't think I'd go further than a couple off the cuff comments. I certainly don't feel the need to actually bash the man. And that was someone who *as far as I know* didn't do much, if any, charity work.

Now that Trevor posted what I wanted to say, let's delve into the R-Death Conspiracy (started by our friends on the ABS forums). A lot of famous people have been dying lately that had a first or last name that started with an 'R'.

Rick James. Christopher Reeve. Johnny Ramone. Rodney Dangerfield. Ronald Reagan.

Anyone with an r-name should make sure their wills are up-to-date.

its my belief that people choose or know of there deaths wether it is in this life or a past existance hence my previuos statement .


and living with someone whos quality of life is not quite the same as my own and who suffers constant pain i do now believe that Mr Reeves is now in peace

what happened to the man is he got a ulcer...a bed sore which COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED with proper skin care and turning of body and cushioning of body. Then because he didnt get it treated in time he got a systemic infection which led to a heart attack.

all this could have been prevented with proper nursing care which makes me wonder why this very rich man didnt have a staff taking better care of his body...

being a nursing student it just pains me to see he died this way because the poor man had to have been in some pain, lemme tell ya i've seen some bedsores to where i could see bone and spine thats how deep they went. His was probably this bad if it went systemic. they should have at least been using a freakin wetvac basically that pulls the infection out.

anyway, i feel sorry the man died so young, 52 is to early to die. my prayers are with his family. and im cursing his medical staff *shakes her fist*
