In my opinion these stealth attacks are kinda weak.
I think one major tweak that could be done to true stealth attacks is make them only avoidable with evasion(with some kind of skill check of course, if the defender passes the check they can use whatever defense they are using: parry, shield or evasion if thats what they use).
If the attacker 'wins' the skill check then the defender automatically defaults to evasion no matter what(even if they happen to have 0 in that skill, a bit harsh yes, but these attacks are supposed to be surprise attacks, especially hamstring where you are gonna be coming at your enemy from behind).
Id like to hear everyones thoughts and opinions on this matter. _________________ It is better to be pissed off than pissed on. |

I don't get why you should have an evasion check like that. |

Mainly because these are supposed to be surprise attacks, usually coming at your enemy from behind, juggling reality here for a moment, IF you were able to get the drop on someone from behind their best chest is gonna be trying to move outta the way with very little time for preperation.
The other side of the 'check', failing it. Enemy sees/hears you coming and is ready for you. _________________ It is better to be pissed off than pissed on. |

Wouldn't it make more sense for one to be able to trump surprise with good observational skills (Tracking/Streetwise/Perception) rendering the powerful attack as a normal one if the defender manages to do so?
This is how ambush works, btw. If you fail to notice the surprise attack, I could see some merit in making defense literally impossible, and that is NOT how ambush currently works. If you don't see an attack coming I don't know how you'd defend against it.
However, we do have the third issue of a partial success to consider... _________________ "Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something." -- Plato

Basically I just think that these 'surprise' attacks are too easily defended and shrugged off. Id like to see them more powerful in some way.

I was thinking that too but it seems kinda extreme. But youre right with partial success there are so many random things to consider.
Id just like to see something that really sets these types of attacks apart. Maybe make it so that a failed check makes the attack totally weak, and a successfull check makes it very very powerful.
I know agents arent supposed to be kings of combat but I think stealth attacks could be tweaked a bit. Maybe change the type of checks that are involved. _________________ It is better to be pissed off than pissed on. |

It would be a good idea if the "surprise" was unavoidable if they failed a perceptionesque skill. I don't think you can really evade something you can't see. _________________ >ask librarian about books

I agree with Tugor and Trevor both here, I think it should be reworked a bit.

I don't really see hamstring as something that would necessarily give you a huge bonus to hitting your opponent, as opposed to something that will give you a rather large advantage as a first strike. _________________ HR-Marduk
