The number of sentient and intelligent species present in the world are unknown. However, three native species have risen to the greatest positions of strength within society: the Alteri, Eolai, and Jaddan. These people have a rich history of accomplishment, culture and conflict. However, conflict was given to its greatest rise in modern times by the arrival of the Darju. Not native to Haelrahv, this warmonging species began an immediate campaign of assault and invasion against other sentient species, particularly the Eolai.
Another species, the Humans, joined the world stage around the same time as the Darju. Known best for wise tactical decisions and effective use of politics, the Humans managed to direct efforts to eventually end war between the species. Since their arrival, the Humans have been instrumental in the development of technology and, at least according to historical texts, the betterment of society as a whole. Of course, their exact impact and the merits thereof is a topic of vigorous debate.
